Transforming in the new era

In recent years, digital transformation and technology application have been a common trend of the whole society. In line with this wave of development, members and women in ethnic minority and mountainous areas have constantly made efforts to keep up with the trend. By equipping themselves with knowledge, skills, applying technology to production and business, as well as connecting to the product consumption market, many women have made changes in the new era.

As a mountainous district in the western border of Thua Thien Hue province, A Luoi is a long-standing residential area of ethnic minorities and is one of the districts that used to be on the list of poor districts nationwide. Overcoming difficulties, since 2024, A Luoi district has risen strongly, officially escaped poverty and gradually "changed its skin and flesh". A significant contribution to this rise must be mentioned the efforts of members, women, who constantly strive to develop their family economy , thereby contributing to the overall development of the local economy.

One of the outstanding achievements of the members and women of A Luoi district in recent times is to keep up with and quickly adapt to digital transformation. Many women have taken advantage of platforms such as Facebook, Zalo, TikTok... to do business and start-up, bringing about clear economic efficiency. A typical example is Ms. Ho Thi Nga in Hong Thuong commune, thanks to the skillful application of technology, her Cooperative (HTX) for production and trading of clean agricultural products in A Luoi has developed remarkably.

Recalling the early days of its establishment in 2018, the cooperative run by Ms. Nga encountered many difficulties, with limited output, mainly selling to acquaintances, so the monthly revenue was only about 5-6 million VND. The turning point came when she was supported by the Women's Union of A Luoi district in training, equipping her with knowledge and skills in business on digital platforms. From then on, Ms. Nga started using her smartphone to record videos , take photos, write promotional content and sell products via Facebook, Zalo, TikTok; at the same time, she actively livestreamed at fairs and exhibitions of traditional products. Thanks to that, clean agricultural products of highland women are increasingly known to many customers.

Currently, the products of the A Luoi Clean Agricultural Products Production and Trading Cooperative are available at 22 clean vegetable stores and supermarkets in Hue City. In addition, the system of restaurants, hotels, boarding schools and markets in A Luoi district are all wholesale and retail outlets of the Cooperative. From the actual business performance of Ms. Nga, many members and women in the area have changed their business habits. Instead of following the traditional way, they proactively use digital platforms to introduce and promote local products, thereby expanding the market, increasing income and contributing to promoting local economic development.

Similarly, many members and ethnic minority women in Thuan Chau district, Son La province are also actively keeping up with digital transformation, boldly applying technology to promote local products closer to customers inside and outside the district. Many cooperatives owned by women have conducted livestream sessions to introduce local agricultural products such as dragon fruit, passion fruit, hawthorn, honey, etc.

Thanks to the quick application of technology, many members and women have confidently appeared in front of the camera, introducing products with friendly and charming conversation, creating sympathy with viewers. It seems that this form of online business does not only promote sales, but also becomes a means to promote products and highland cultural identity to consumers across the country. Each livestream is both a trading session and an opportunity for viewers to admire unique products, everyday stories and the beauty of the work of ethnic minority women.

Those who "sow the seeds" of digital transformation

Under the strong impact of digital transformation, members and women in ethnic minority and mountainous areas have been gradually approaching, adapting and mastering technology to improve the quality of life, develop the economy and meet the requirements of the new era. Contributing significantly to this journey is the role of the Women's Union staff - who are considered a bright spot in bringing the "digital revolution" to the village.

It is known that in order for members and women in Thuan Chau district, Son La province to proactively keep up with and create breakthroughs in the digital transformation process, in recent years, the District Women's Union has identified digital transformation as an important task, bringing many benefits to women, especially ethnic minority women. Opening up many opportunities for innovation in the Union's work and supporting women to easily exchange and acquire knowledge, experience, and good models in economic development, overcoming all prejudices and gender barriers...

In particular, with the goal of developing many types of agricultural products and local specialties, the Women's Union of Thuan Chau district has coordinated with agencies and units to organize training courses for business households and cooperatives owned by women, helping women access many forms of business, introduce products on livestream, build and manage websites. At the same time, it provides technical guidance on preserving and transporting agricultural products safely and supports women in applying science and technology to enhance the economic power of ethnic minority women.

Not only the Women's Union of Thuan Chau district, the Women's Union of Son La province also identified digital transformation as an inevitable and urgent task. The Provincial Women's Union has implemented digital transformation, applying technology in the activities and operations of the Provincial and District Women's Unions. According to the digital transformation information of the Women's Union of Son La province, by March 2024, the Provincial Women's Union had received and processed 8,428 incoming documents; issued 3,181 documents to direct and deploy the work of the Union and women's movements. In particular, ensuring 100% of documents are issued and processed entirely on the network environment, using digital signatures.

In addition, the provincial Women's Union officials have deployed a series of practical activities in the emulation movement "Digital transformation in all levels of the Union in Son La province" such as: organizing 06 training conferences to improve and popularize digital skills and the ability to apply information technology for 600 Women's Union officials at all levels; deploying online competitions launched by the Central and the province.

At the same time, training on digital transformation, information technology application, and safe use of social networks was provided to 11,015 union members. Supported knowledge and skills in participating and applying digital platforms, e-commerce platforms, smartphone usage skills, e-transactions, and using social networking platforms in economic development and financial management activities for about 3,000 members and women (30% are ethnic minority women; 50% are OCOP subjects). Over 1,000 communication documents were transmitted on the website, electronic communication channels, or official social networking platforms of the Provincial Women's Union...

It can be seen that the flexibility in the direction of the Women's Union at all levels, together with the sharp, proactive and responsible spirit of the Women's Union staff, has become a bridge to bring the "digital revolution" closer to each member and woman in ethnic minority and mountainous areas. Thanks to that, it helps members and women change their thinking and working methods, promote initiative and creativity in Union activities as well as in production and business. This transformation not only contributes to promoting local economic development, but also opens up opportunities to improve the quality of life and affirm the role and position of ethnic minority women in the new era.
