Cesarean scar defect can cause secondary infertility

This invention was granted by the Department of Intellectual Property, Ministry of Science and Technology to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Viet Tien, Vice Chairman of the National Medical Council, Chairman of the Vietnam Obstetrics and Gynecology Association.

Nowadays, due to the increasing rate of cesarean section, the prevalence of cesarean scar defect is increasing. Approximately 12.7-48% of women have this scar defect after cesarean section. The more cesarean sections, the higher the risk of scar defect.

Cesarean scar defect is a common disease and can cause many problems for women, such as menorrhagia, metrorrhagia, chronic pelvic pain, pain during intercourse, urinary disorders or pressure in the lower abdomen, secondary infertility, repeated embryo transfer failures...

For current treatment methods, when scar defects cause inflammation in the defect area, leading to IVF or embryo transfer failure, doctors often choose to treat with contraceptives, which are only temporary and have low effectiveness, or treat with laparoscopic surgery, which is valuable but has difficulties such as difficulty in determining the exact location of the scar defect, easily causing uterine perforation or damage to healthy tissue if the location is determined incorrectly.

Determining the location of the scar depends largely on the surgeon's experience, combined with visual and hand perception, so accuracy cannot be absolute.

In particular, without this new device, after opening the uterus, it is very difficult for the surgeon to clearly see the scar location from the outside.

At this time, some solutions such as inserting light into the uterus to examine from the inside are not absolute. This increases the risk of complications (uterine muscle tear, bleeding); making it difficult to ensure complete removal of pathological scar tissue.

The invention has saved hundreds of patients.

With the technique of this invention, the purpose is to increase the ability to determine the location of scar defects quickly, accurately and safely in laparoscopic surgery to correct cesarean scar defects.

The invention uses a white teflon plastic guide inserted into the uterine cavity, coated with oil to avoid uterine tissue sticking and thanks to the light passing through, helping the surgeon clearly determine the location of the scar defect from the outside.

The technique of this invention helps to locate scars more accurately, operate more safely and shorten surgery time.

In particular, the main effects of the invention increase the accuracy in determining the location of the scar defect; thanks to the light from the light guide combined with the endoscope, the surgeon can easily see the location of the scar defect more clearly. This helps reduce dependence on the surgeon's personal experience, increasing objectivity and reliability in surgery.

The invention also supports easier and more thorough scar removal, reducing the risk of complications during surgery. When the scar location is accurately and clearly identified, the surgeon can remove scar tissue accurately and safely.

By precisely locating the scar, the device helps avoid the risk of cutting into the bladder, especially in cases where the scar defect is near the bladder — a common dangerous complication.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Viet Tien and his team have used new equipment for endoscopic surgeries in nearly 500 cases, achieving a high success rate, no surgical complications, and no health-affecting sequelae.

After surgery, many patients regained normal quality of life, many had natural pregnancies or successful embryo transfers.

With nearly 40 years of experience in the field of obstetrics and gynecology and outstanding achievements in the country's medical field (the first person to bring IVF and tumor removal techniques using US Hifu - no surgery required, to Vietnam), despite his "rare" age, Professor Nguyen Viet Tien still continuously researches and explores new methods and techniques to help Vietnamese women have more opportunities to get pregnant, overcoming barriers to reproductive health.

His dedication not only contributes to reducing the burden on the domestic obstetrics and gynecology sector but also strongly inspires a compassionate heart and the will to pursue to the end the mission of protecting the happiness of millions of Vietnamese families.
