According to information from the Dak Lak Durian Association, in 2024, the province's durian area will reach 37,381 hectares, with an output of 318,000 tons; it is expected that in 2025, the output will increase by 20% compared to 2024.
Despite its great potential, the Dak Lak durian industry is facing many barriers, especially the quality control regulations of the importing country China for fresh durian, including requirements on Cadmium (Cd) and Yellow O (O). These are significant challenges, requiring synchronous and drastic solutions.
To solve these problems, the Association has also cooperated with the Central Highlands Agricultural and Forestry Science and Technology Institute to carry out the task of surveying and evaluating cadmium and yellow O in durian cultivation in Dak Lak to find solutions to overcome and improve the quality of Vietnamese durian.
Mr. Vu Duc Con, Chairman of Dak Lak Durian Association spoke at the meeting. |
For the management, monitoring and traceability of durian products from growing areas to packaging facilities, ensuring transparency, the Association is coordinating with businesses to apply technology to serve the updating, management and monitoring of growing area codes and packaging facility codes.
The meeting participants agreed that the above solutions must be quickly implemented to thoroughly resolve problems related to quality and quarantine, especially issues related to heavy metals such as cadmium and O-gold. At the same time, they aim to build a sustainable value chain and enhance the competitiveness of Dak Lak durian products in the international market.
However, to do this, it is necessary to have the participation and support of the Department of Agriculture and Environment in directing coordination between specialized units and the Association; integrating other programs to implement more effectively in building the durian value chain... Concluding the meeting, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Van Ha requested the Association to select 10-15 typical enterprises to participate in the roadmap to build the Dak Lak durian value chain, because building the chain is an urgent task and is necessary in the current context. The Department will establish a specialized working group to work with localities to discuss the work of building the chain and research support policies to advise the Provincial People's Committee to issue promptly. At the same time, promote the communication of regulations of importing countries; durian purchasing and control processes... so that farmers, traders, and enterprises can clearly understand; as well as widely publicize the results in building Dak Lak into a safe, high-quality durian region of the country before entering the harvest season.
