Can Tho will start construction of many projects worth nearly 3 billion USD in 2025

Speaking at a press conference on the afternoon of April 11, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen said: In the first quarter of 2025, despite facing many difficulties and challenges, Can Tho City has achieved high and comprehensive growth.

Specifically, in the first quarter of 2025, the city's GRDP growth was 7.15%, the highest in the past 3 years, growth in the 3 main areas was quite good; budget revenue was nearly 32% higher than the estimate, exceeding 20% ​​over the same period. Total retail sales of goods and service revenue reached over 35 trillion VND, up 12.99%. Export turnover of goods, service revenue and foreign currency revenue reached over 633.6 million USD, up 17.24% over the same period.

In addition, the fields of culture, society and social security have all had great results, such as the city will complete the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in the area before April 22, 2025, which will be announced on April 25, 2025.

However, the city's economic growth rate has not met the requirement of 8.2%, and is even lower than the "double-digit" growth target set, which requires accelerating growth from now until the end of the year to achieve the set annual target.

This places a great demand on the city to promote solutions to remove difficulties and be determined to achieve the highest economic growth target.

To do so, Can Tho city will focus on site clearance and finding alternative materials to compensate for the current shortage of sand for filling to serve key basic construction projects in the area.

Can Tho City will focus on drastic solutions such as starting a number of large projects such as VSIP's secondary factory, starting the construction of Aeon Mall with about 250 million USD and is expected to start construction of 2 power plants in 2025 with an investment of 1.3 billion USD each. In particular, striving to start construction of O Mon 4 Power Plant with a capacity of 1,500 MW and an investment capital of 1.3 billion USD in September 2025.

At the same time, step up support to remove difficulties for businesses as a driving force to contribute to promoting growth in the remaining quarters to achieve the growth target of 9.5% as assigned by the Resolution of the City People's Council in 2025.

In addition, the city will report to the Central Government on additional capital and mobilize city resources to restart Can Tho Oncology Hospital, meeting the medical examination and treatment needs of 19 million people in the Mekong Delta, minimizing the long-standing waste due to unfinished construction.

Regarding private investment, Can Tho city is strongly supporting a number of large projects to be implemented before and after the 50th anniversary of the complete liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 2025) in order to bring about a great impact on the city's GRDP growth.

No disruption in organizational arrangement

Responding to the Government Electronic Newspaper about the current process of streamlining the apparatus, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Hanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Home Affairs of Can Tho City, said: Up to now, the Department of Home Affairs is synthesizing cases of resignation and early retirement according to Decree 178 and Decree 67 of the Government to report to the city and competent authorities for consideration and decision.

Statistics show that there are currently 361 cadres, civil servants, public employees, and workers who wish to quit their jobs or retire early. The Department of Home Affairs is surveying, evaluating, and having specific solutions to ensure that the arrangement of the administrative apparatus and streamlining of cadres, civil servants, public employees, and workers of Can Tho city does not cause disruption, operates smoothly, and effectively serves the people and businesses.

Also in April 2025, the provinces expected to merge with Can Tho city proactively coordinated to develop projects to rearrange administrative units at the provincial and communal levels, and organized to collect public opinions during the process of merging and rearranging the current organizational apparatus.
