On May 14, Mr. Tran Van Lau - Chairman of the People's Committee of Soc Trang province - said that the Ministry of Construction has just issued a decision approving the detailed development of land and seaport areas of Soc Trang in the period of 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050.
"This is very good news for Soc Trang. The province will direct the relevant agencies to closely coordinate with the Vietnam Maritime and Waterways Administration in the process of developing and adjusting planning, plans, and projects in the area to ensure consistency and synchronization with the seaport planning and the orientations for developing transport connecting seaports in the planning," said Mr. Lau.
According to the decision of the Ministry of Construction, Soc Trang seaport includes Ke Sach, Dai Ngai, Tran De wharf areas and buoy wharves, anchorage areas, transshipment areas, and storm shelters.
In particular, the offshore port of Tran De estuary is planned to handle 24.6 - 32.5 million tons of goods, with 1 port consisting of 2 - 4 wharves with a total length of 800 - 1,600m, not including the onshore transit wharf at Tran De estuary.
Specifically, including the port serving Tran De Industrial Park, there are 2 general cargo wharves with a total length of 260m, receiving ships with a capacity of up to 2,000 tons, barge size, watercraft with a capacity of up to 5,000 tons suitable for the clearance of river crossing works, meeting the demand for customs clearance of goods from 1 - 1.1 million tons.
Superdong Tran De Port - Soc Trang has 2 passenger wharves with a total length of 83m, receiving high-speed ships with a capacity of 200 tons.
In particular, the Tran De offshore port is planned to have 2-4 general, container, and bulk cargo wharves with a total length of 800 - 1,600m, receiving general and container ships with a capacity of up to 100,000 tons, and bulk cargo ships with a capacity of up to 160,000 tons, meeting the demand for customs clearance of goods from 24.6 - 32.5 million tons.
In addition, investment in onshore transit wharves at Tran De has a scale and investment process suitable to the scale of offshore port investment according to the plan, to support port exploitation activities.
The total land use demand according to the planning until 2030 is about 1,331 hectares, not including areas for developing industrial parks and logistics associated with ports and the total water surface demand is about 148,486 hectares.
The investment capital demand for Soc Trang seaport system by 2030 is about 61,513 billion VND, including investment capital for public maritime infrastructure of about 19,607 billion VND and investment capital demand for ports of about 41,906 billion VND.
According to the decision of the Ministry of Construction, priority projects calling for investment include public maritime infrastructure and seaports.
Particularly for public maritime infrastructure projects, priority is given to investment in public infrastructure of offshore ports at Tran De estuary, including shipping channels, breakwaters, sea-crossing bridges; storm shelters; coastal information stations, maritime traffic monitoring and coordination systems, etc.
