Women members boldly borrow capital for livestock and crop farming |
When the loan is used for the right purpose
Ms. Le Viet Ha, Phu Bai Ward, Huong Thuy Town, used to be unemployed, and her whole family lived on her husband's salary. When the Ward Women's Union encouraged her to borrow money to start a business, she did not hesitate. "Only when you have debt do you have the motivation to work to pay it off. From the initial capital, I started planting fruit trees, digging ponds to raise fish, raising chickens and ducks...", Ms. Ha confided.
When she first started her business, with little capital, Ms. Ha had to work for profit. With the motto of short-term to long-term, she started growing vegetables and short-season fruits such as squash and pumpkin, raising chickens and ducks to earn more income... Up to now, Ms. Ha's more than 3 hectares of fruit garden has been yielding regular harvests.
Choosing the right direction, Ms. Ha not only paid back the initial loan, but her economic model also brought high profits. After deducting expenses, each year Ms. Ha earns nearly 200 million VND in profit from raising livestock and growing crops.
Also from the preferential loan capital from the Bank for Social Policies, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong, Co Thap village, Quang Vinh commune, Quang Dien district boldly started a business with a model of making incense at home. When receiving the capital, she purchased machinery and raw materials to start the business.
“I got into the incense making profession thanks to the opportunities to learn about effective economic models in the localities organized by the Women's Union of the commune. Realizing that the demand in the locality was high but no one was doing it, I borrowed capital to start a business. At first, it was mainly family members working together, but now, with more and more orders, my incense production facility has to hire 7 more regular workers to keep up with the delivery to customers,” said Ms. Phuong.
Ms. Phuong used the loan for the right purpose and effectively, as proven by her stable income of over 200 million VND/year. Not only did she escape poverty sustainably, Ms. Phuong is also a role model in economic development for members to follow.
Help poor members access capital
By the end of the first quarter of 2025, the policy credit capital entrusted to the Hue City Women's Union was more than VND 2,700 billion, with 1,222 loan groups (TVV). In order for members to easily access loans, the City Women's Union has directed the grassroots associations to review and grasp the needs and aspirations of members, especially poor members, to provide timely support.
To ensure that loans reach the right people and are used for the right purposes, the Women's Unions in localities have implemented the loan approval process well. At the same time, when the loans have been disbursed, the branches regularly check the effectiveness of ineffective economic development models to find out the causes, thereby providing timely support and resolving difficulties. Along with supporting and helping members access preferential loans, the City Women's Union coordinates with relevant agencies to organize vocational training classes and training courses to transfer science and technology to members.
Ms. Tran Thi Kim Loan, President of the Hue City Women's Union, said: The local Women's Unions proactively coordinate with the Social Policy Bank to inspect and supervise the implementation of agreements and trust contracts; participate in regular meetings with the Social Policy Bank and organize preliminary and final reviews to evaluate the results of annual trust activities to promptly remove difficulties and problems arising at the grassroots level, propose effective operational solutions, contributing to improving the quality of policy credit in the locality.
