Vietnam - US trade negotiations are positive, how will the stock market perform?

The successes in Vietnam-US trade negotiations show many positive signals, but the stock market will continue to maintain stability in the medium and long term.

Responding to VTC News, Mr. Dang Tran Phuc, Chairman of the Board of Directors of AZfin Vietnam Joint Stock Company, said that the second round of trade negotiations between Vietnam and the US achieved some positive progress that will impact the Vietnamese stock market.

Investors will have a wait-and-see attitude early next week. Even manufacturers and businesses are waiting for the final trade negotiation agreement between Vietnam and the US. Then they will develop production and business plans and implement appropriate plans. The successes in the Vietnam-US trade negotiations show positivity, but there has not been an immediate explosion or fire,” said Mr. Phuc.

According to Mr. Phuc, Resolution 68 on private economic development is also an extremely positive factor for the stock market.

“In the long term, Resolution 68 will have a very positive impact on the stock market, especially on listed companies that are large-scale private enterprises such as Vingroup, Sungroup, Hoa Phat, joint stock commercial banks such as VP Bank, Techcombank , HD Bank and some real estate companies,” said Mr. Phuc.

Mr. Dang Tran Phuc also commented that the market is still likely to experience a short-term correction because momentum indicators are in the overbought zone.

“In general, the market will continue to maintain stability in the medium and long term. Short-term investors should limit chasing purchases, closely monitor the tariff situation, and consider the weak stock structure in the portfolio. For long-term investors, they can consider gradually disbursing in volatile sessions, focusing on stocks that are not much affected by tariffs, benefit from economic recovery, growing business results, attractive valuations and high cash dividends, prioritizing banking, securities, public investment and retail stocks,” said Mr. Phuc.

Agreeing with the above opinion, Mr. Dinh Quang Hinh, Head of Macro and Market Strategy Department, VN-Direct Securities Joint Stock Company, also said that these events will have a positive impact on the Vietnamese stock market next week.

According to Mr. Hinh, after falling back to the support zone of 1,290-1,300 points in the second session, the VN-Index has shown a positive recovery trend in the two mid-week sessions.

"The recovery momentum is led by positive signals in trade negotiations between Vietnam and the US," Mr. Hinh affirmed.

At the same time, The Trump Organization officially broke ground on a $1.5 billion project in Hung Yen . These moves have raised expectations that Vietnam could reach a more favorable reciprocal tax trade agreement within the next 45 days.

In addition, the market was also supported by the increase of Vingroup stocks after a series of positive news including the Prime Minister requesting relevant agencies to study the proposal to build Vinspeed's high-speed railway and the Tu Lien bridge project officially started to help improve the infrastructure connecting the Vin Global Gate Co Loa project with the inner city. The increase only cooled down in the last two sessions of the week when profit-taking pressure returned at the resistance zone of 1,320-1,340 points. At the end of the week, the VN-Index increased by a total of 1.4% to 1,314.5 points.

Next week, the resistance zone of 1,320-1,340 is still a big challenge, as this is the peak zone since the beginning of the year. The market is entering a period of "blank area" of supporting information after the first quarter business results reporting season and the 2025 shareholders' meeting. With the Vietnam-US trade negotiation round taking place in early June, the VN-Index may move sideways in the 1,290-1,340 range to absorb profit-taking supply, waiting for new signals.
