World number two Fabiano Caruana won the Sinquefield Cup , to win the 2023 Grand Chess Tour with a total prize money of $310,000.
At the Sinquefield Cup, which ended on the morning of December 1, Hanoi time, Caruana defeated Richard Rapport in the final game. After eight games, he had 5.5 points, taking the top spot. Two other American players followed, Leinier Dominguez with 5 points and Wesley So with 4.5 points.

After five tournaments on the Grand Chess Tour this year, Caruana has won three, including two standard tournaments and one blitz tournament. The Italian-American has a total of 46 points this year, 18 more than runner-up Maxime Vachier-Lagrave.
The win over Rapport also brought Caruana back into the 2,800 Elo bracket for the first time in two years. He maintained his position as world number two, closing the gap with Magnus Carlsen to 26 Elo points.
Caruana was born in Miami but grew up in Brooklyn to Italian parents. He has the third-highest Elo rating of all time, 2,844, behind Carlsen and Garry Kasparov. The 31-year-old won $310,000 in prize money from the 2023 Grand Chess Tour, more than the next two players combined, Vachier-Lagrave and So. Last year's champion Alireza Firouzja struggled to finish fifth with $98,750.
The Grand Chess Tour is a prestigious chess tournament system, consisting of five tournaments each year. The tournament invites nine regular players, and wildcards for each tournament. Magnus Carlsen is not a regular player, but he participated in two invitation tournaments and won both.
Vietnam's number one player Le Quang Liem was given a special invitation to participate in the St Louis Blitz tournament in November 2023, and tied for third place with Ian Nepomniachtchi. This is also Quang Liem's best achievement in this arena.
World champion Ding Liren was an official player, but only participated in one tournament, then withdrew from the others. The Chinese player will return to compete at the top level at Tata Steel, Netherlands in January 2024.
