The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has just issued a decision approving the appraisal results of the environmental impact assessment report for the project "Socialization of dredging the Tien River navigation channel through Cua Tieu, Tien Giang province in the form of collecting saline sand products to compensate for costs, without using the state budget", with Gia Phu Joint Stock Company as the investor.
The project is implemented in the form of socialization, collecting salty sand products to cover costs, without using the state budget, with the goal of maintaining and dredging the 17.5km long Tien River navigation channel from buoy P0 to buoy P17-P18 through Cua Tieu, ensuring the safe navigation of 5,000 DWT ships and inland waterway vehicles.
According to the design, the waterway has a width of 80m and a depth of -4.8m (nautical chart system). The total volume of dredging is estimated at about 4.51 million m3 , all of which will be recovered as landfill material according to regulations.
Dredged materials will not be stored in a separate area, but will be transferred directly to the receiving unit, which is expected to supply the Can Gio coastal urban tourism project, about 16km from the construction area.
The construction period is expected to last about 533 days (equivalent to 2 years), on average 275 days of construction per year, working 12 hours per day and will stop when encountering storms or strong winds.
To limit negative impacts on the environment from wastewater from dredging activities, vehicle emissions, noise, vibrations, oil leaks... from machinery, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment requires project owners to synchronously implement many environmental protection solutions such as: collecting and treating domestic wastewater to meet standards before discharging; controlling emissions, collecting domestic waste, handing over to competent units for treatment; fully equipping environmental incident response equipment such as booms, oil-absorbent materials; arranging plans to prevent oil spills, landslides, maritime accidents...
