Many job opportunities
Mr. Tran Minh Thanh (living in Can Gio commune) said that in the past, people lived mainly by fishing, depending on the weather and fish resources, so their income was unstable. Since the urban project on reclaiming the sea, many people have had stable jobs, such as construction workers, house renters, traders, etc. Their income has also improved while their fishing profession is still maintained.
“Especially transportation, before it was very difficult to travel, had to cross ferries, the roads were muddy. Now hearing the news that there will be bridges, metro, and super cities, I am very happy. When transportation is convenient, more tourists will come, people will have the opportunity to trade, do business, their children will learn tourism and restaurant skills - have jobs right in their hometown”, Mr. Thanh said.
According to Mr. Thanh, when first hearing about the project, most of the people in Can Gio were more or less worried, most afraid of the disruption to their lives. But when the project was implemented, workers returned in large numbers, business became more bustling, many people had jobs with an income of 10-12 million VND/month.
As a “true” Can Gio resident, Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Nhan was also worried that everything would change, especially the inherent peace when Can Gio was invested in for strong development. Then, after decades of watching her children and grandchildren struggle with the salt and sea trade, working here and there, she understood that the younger generation needed stability and a future.
Mrs. Nhan said: “My children and grandchildren used to work in the city center, going back and forth far away, having difficult and unstable jobs. Now my children and grandchildren have returned to the countryside, some work as security guards, plant trees, some study hotel management to work here long-term.”

Ms. Tran Thi Hong Cam, a tourism service businesswoman in Can Gio commune, said that seeing her hometown receiving strong investment and having many development opportunities, she also wanted to contribute. Traffic is now convenient, tourists are flocking here more and more, she plans to open more experiential tourism activities, source tourism and check-in points for tourists. Ms. Cam believes: "Certainly in the future, Can Gio will be a place worth living and working."
Sustainable development includes creating jobs for local people, so that they can live right on their homeland, which is a major policy of the city's leaders.
Ms. Vo Thi Diem Phuong, Vice Chairwoman of Can Gio Commune People's Committee, shared that the theme of the 1st Party Congress of the commune for the 2025 - 2030 term is to build and develop Can Gio into a sustainable commercial - service and eco-tourism urban area, associated with marine economic development. Currently, in the commune, there are many projects that have been and are being implemented, in which the sea-encroaching urban area is an important highlight.
According to Ms. Phuong, the project not only helps create jobs for local people, but also promotes trade and service development, increases budget revenue and improves living standards. Can Gio is blessed with mangrove forests, seas and a rich ecosystem – a rare advantage for developing ecological urban areas.
“After the merger, Can Gio received special attention from the city leaders in investing in infrastructure and utilities. In particular, the transportation system is increasingly connected synchronously with the city center via the Sac Forest route, Long Tau river waterway, etc. This is an important foundation for Can Gio to break through and become a strategic urban area facing the sea of the city,” Ms. Vo Thi Diem Phuong emphasized.
Ecological urban area , sustainable development
Both the government and the people of Can Gio share the belief that the sea-encroaching urban area project will open up a new face for the southernmost region of Ho Chi Minh City, not only helping to improve people's lives, but also turning Can Gio into an international ecological - tourism - commercial and service urban area.
The Can Gio coastal urban tourism project (Vinhomes Green Paradise) invested by Vingroup is entering the final stage, preparing to complete the foundation and anti-erosion work - an important step in the process of forming a coastal mega-urban area of nearly 2,900 hectares.
Vinhomes Green Paradise is positioned as an ESG++ super urban area, aiming towards a Green - Smart - Ecological - Regenerative city model, contributing to shaping sustainable future living standards. Ms. Phan Thien Ly, Project Sales Director, informed that the project was started on April 19, in the coastal area of Long Hoa commune - Can Gio district (now Can Gio commune, Ho Chi Minh City), with a total area of 2,870 hectares. This is considered one of the largest urban projects in Vietnam today.

The project is being accelerated. Phase 1 is expected to be completed by November, including embankment and erosion control. At the same time, the investor will start construction on a golf course, theater, amusement park and low-rise housing area. Phase 2 will be implemented in mid-2026, focusing on traffic infrastructure and technical items.
According to Vingroup representative, Can Gio geological features have many complex sedimentary layers. The upper soil layer is soft clayey sand silt 18-24m thick, below is clay and semi-hard sand, and at a depth of 36-40m is a solid soil layer, suitable for laying foundations for large-scale projects.
To handle the ground, Vingroup has cooperated with international experts from the Netherlands - the world's leading country in sea reclamation technology to ensure the project is absolutely safe and has long-term sustainability.
Modern sandblasting technology combined with the principle of excavation-fill balance is applied, in which most of the filling material is taken from the water surface area within the planning area to fill the land. This is an environmentally friendly solution, which has been successfully applied at Palm Jumeirah (Dubai) and major port expansion projects in Asia.
Vingroup affirmed: “The Group makes a lifetime commitment in the sales contract: if there is subsidence, Vingroup will directly maintain and repair it at its own expense. This is a commitment to the sustainability of the property and the trust of customers.”
In addition to technical factors, the Vinhomes Green Paradise project also focuses on ecological development, combining mangrove planting, preserving and regenerating coastal ecosystems, contributing to responding to climate change and preserving the natural environment of Can Gio.
These solutions are expected to turn the project into not only a modern coastal urban area but also a sustainable green symbol, marking a new step forward in Vietnam's coastal urban development model - towards international standards on ecological urban areas and sustainable development.
