On October 25, speaking to the press about the knife attack at Nghe An Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital that injured many medical staff and patients' relatives, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan said that she had directed the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management to coordinate with the police and local authorities to clarify the incident and strictly handle the person who attacked the medical staff.
At the same time, the Ministry of Health is reviewing all security work in hospitals, especially in sensitive areas such as emergency rooms, neonatal and psychiatric rooms.

According to the Minister of Health, although the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment strictly prohibits acts of abuse against medical staff, in reality, cases of violence against medical staff still occur. This is a painful issue and seriously affects hospital security and safety, the health and lives of medical staff, as well as patients and their families.
The Ministry of Health's viewpoint is to strictly handle the subjects to serve as a deterrent. "The medical team must be protected in any case," Minister Dao Hong Lan emphasized.
Also related to this incident, the Minister of Health decided to award certificates of merit to the collective of the Neonatal Department and 4 nurses of the Neonatal Department (Nguyen Thuy Trang, Nguyen Thi Thu Hoai, Tran Thi Hong and Nguyen Thi Hong) of Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital for their bravery, intervention, and protection of the safety of the patient and the patient's family in an emergency situation.
At around 10am on October 23, Bang Van Vy (born in 1996, residing in Que Phong commune, Nghe An province) went to Nghe An Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital to take care of his wife who had just given birth (twins). Because he thought that his child was not receiving proper attention from the hospital and suspected that the baby had been switched, Vy used a knife to attack medical staff and the patient's family. More dangerously, Vy grabbed a newborn baby and tried to throw it out the window.
At this time, some nurses immediately intervened to save the child and were attacked by the subject. The incident left 4 medical staff and 2 patient's relatives injured, of which nurse Nguyen Thuy Trang was seriously injured with stab wounds to the neck and chest. The victims were transferred to Nghe An General Hospital for emergency treatment and are now out of danger.
