On October 25th, in an interview with the press regarding the knife attack at Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital that injured several medical staff and patients' relatives, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan stated that she had directed the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management to coordinate with the police and local authorities to clarify the incident and strictly punish the perpetrators who attacked the medical staff.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health is reviewing all security measures in hospitals, especially in sensitive areas such as emergency rooms, neonatal wards, and psychiatric wards.

According to the Minister of Health, although the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment strictly prohibits acts of violence against medical staff, in reality, incidents of violence against medical staff still occur. This is a pressing issue that seriously affects hospital security and safety, as well as the health and lives of medical staff, patients, and their families.

The Ministry of Health's stance is to strictly punish those responsible to create a deterrent effect. "Medical staff must be protected in all circumstances," Minister Dao Hong Lan emphasized.

Also related to this incident, the Minister of Health decided to award a certificate of commendation to the Neonatal Department and four nurses from the Neonatal Department (Nguyen Thuy Trang, Nguyen Thi Thu Hoai, Tran Thi Hong, and Nguyen Thi Hong) of Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital for their bravery in intervening and protecting the safety of the patient and their family in a critical situation.

Earlier, at around 10:00 AM on October 23rd, Bang Van Vy (born in 1996, residing in Que Phong commune, Nghe An province) went to Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital to care for his wife who had just given birth to twins. Believing that his children were not receiving adequate care at the hospital and suspecting that the babies had been swapped, Vy attacked medical staff and family members with a knife. Even more dangerously, Vy grabbed one of the newborns and attempted to throw it out the window.

At that moment, several nurses immediately intervened to save the child and were attacked by the assailant. The incident resulted in injuries to four medical staff and two family members of the patient, with nurse Nguyen Thuy Trang sustaining serious injuries from stab wounds to the neck and chest. The victims were transferred to Nghe An Friendship General Hospital for emergency treatment and are now out of critical condition.
