The dance drama "Living" - a young people's heartfelt appreciation for traditional art.

On the evening of December 10th, at the Youth World Stage, the dance drama "Living," the graduation project of Bui Van Dien (Dien Bui), a student in the Stage Directing major at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Film, presented a remarkable performance art to a large audience of young people.

The play was written and directed by Bui Van Dien. The work tells the story of a young person with a passionate love for traditional Vietnamese opera (hat boi), reflecting their journey to rediscover cultural identity amidst the changing times. Beyond just a family story, " Song " (Living) emphasizes love for national art and the aspiration to preserve, promote, and integrate traditional values.

With its structure combining dance drama, physical performance, modern dance, and traditional Vietnamese opera, the play creates a fresh theatrical language: both distinctly Vietnamese and relatable to the sensibilities of young audiences. The work also conveys the message that young people need more opportunities to access traditional art and that they can become the ones to spread cultural heritage with the energy and perspective of their generation.

The dance drama " Living" showcases the intersection between traditional Vietnamese opera (hat boi) and contemporary dance, as a dialogue between the past and the present, between national heritage and the spirit of the times, through diverse dance performances and unique hat boi dance routines.

The lead role in the dance performance "Living" is played by the talented dancer Ha Loc, who previously won a Gold Medal with his dance piece "Jade Fate " (choreographed by Ha Thanh Hau) at the 2024 Ho Chi Minh City Expanded Dance Art Festival, organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Dance Artists Association.
