Emergency treatment successfully saved 9-month-old boy with severe burns from boiling water.

Three hours before admission, a family member was boiling water in an electric kettle when a toddler, who was just learning to walk, stumbled to the stove, pulled on the power cord, and knocked the kettle over, causing burns to the child's face, neck, chest, abdomen, and limbs. The family poured cold water on the child and took him to a local hospital for first aid, before transferring him to the City Children's Hospital.

Here, the child presented with signs of shock, including a weak pulse, cool extremities, approximately 30% second-degree burns, and numerous blisters. Doctors administered intravenous fluids to combat shock, provided respiratory support, used pain medication, and cared for the burn wounds before transferring the child to the Orthopedic Burn Intensive Care Unit for further treatment.

According to Dr. Nguyen Minh Tien, Deputy Director of the City Children's Hospital, the child's burn wounds are cared for using painless antiseptic solutions and biological gauze that kills bacteria, eliminates necrotic tissue, stimulates granulation tissue formation, and prevents tissue adhesion during dressing changes. This is combined with electrolyte and acid-base balance adjustments, nutritional support, and continued monitoring for fluid loss shock and burn wound infection.

"When treating burns in children, it's important to quickly rinse the affected area with water to reduce the burning sensation and pain... especially do not apply toothpaste, fish sauce, vinegar, etc., as these can worsen the burn and make treatment and care more difficult," advised Dr. Nguyen Minh Tien, Specialist Level 2.

* On the same day, An Sinh General Hospital announced that they had successfully saved a premature baby who had suffered cardiac arrest for 60 minutes. The baby was cyanotic throughout its body, unresponsive, and had completely stopped breathing and breathing. The team immediately performed neonatal resuscitation. After nearly 60 minutes, there was very little improvement.

The team continued resuscitation for more than 20 minutes until vital signs stabilized. The total resuscitation time lasted 1 hour and 20 minutes, and the child was successfully recorded as having regained circulation.

After her condition stabilized, the baby was transferred to Children's Hospital 1 for specialized treatment and monitoring of respiratory, neurological, and vital signs. Currently, her condition is progressing well and she is recovering successfully.
