"Currently, the police are investigating the cause and clarifying the responsibility of the organizations and individuals involved in the incident," the Deputy Director of the Department of Construction of An Giang province added.
As reported by Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper, at 1:15 PM on November 29th, the 110kV underwater cable connecting Ha Tien and Phu Quoc, which supplies power to the 110kV Phu Quoc substation, experienced a malfunction, causing a widespread power outage affecting areas including Duong Dong, Cua Can, Cua Duong, Ham Ninh, and the entire northern part of the island. This power outage impacted approximately 30,000 households.

At 10:42 PM on December 5th, the Southern Power Corporation and An Giang Power Company, in coordination with relevant units, successfully energized the 110kV overhead power line, rectifying the broken 110kV underground cable between Ha Tien and Phu Quoc, and restoring electricity supply to the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone.
After restoring power, An Giang Power Company continued to coordinate with relevant units to repair the damaged cable section and restore it to its original condition.

According to initial verification, the cause of the incident was that Thuan Thanh KG Construction Design Consulting Co., Ltd. (the contractor for the coastal arterial road project to the center of Ha Tien) had driven steel piles within the safety corridor of the cable line, approximately 300-400m from the shore, leading to the breakage of the underwater cable.
Following the incident, the Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang province, Ho Van Mung, requested relevant departments and agencies to clarify the responsibilities of the organizations and individuals involved in the incident and report to the Provincial People's Committee for strict handling. If there are signs of criminal violations, the case file must be transferred to the police for investigation as per regulations.
