“Rainbow on the Horizon” – A Look at the Fragments of an Imperfect Family

NDO - “Rainbow on the Horizon” is the latest film that the Vietnam Television Film Production Center (VFC) will introduce to audiences from early June. The film is a humorous, youthful perspective but also brings many thoughts about young families today, especially families that do not have enough “pieces”.

Rainbow on the Horizon revolves around two single-parent families living next to each other in the same apartment building: Tuan - a young single father, who takes care of his young daughter while shouldering the responsibility of his senile old father; and Oanh - a single mother raising her young daughter after the pressure of making a living.

Their already difficult life is turned upside down when the Tuan family's long-time maid resigns, leading to a series of "half-laughing, half-crying" disturbances. The appearance of Tuyet - the new maid - not only saves the situation but also creates an explosion of unexpected, humorous and touching situations.

The presence of two maids brings humorous moments to the film.

Next door, Nga - Oanh's maid - is also not "outdone" in creating drama. From two women who seemed to be just background, Tuyet and Nga became reluctant "matchmakers", unintentionally bringing Tuan and Oanh - two people who had once missed out on love - closer together. The film does not tell a story of brilliant youthful love, but rather a belated but profound love, where people who thought they no longer needed love once again dare to believe and open their hearts.

Along with that love story is an emotional journey about family, old age and loneliness behind the silver hair. Mr. Dung - Tuan's father - who often shows signs of senility in the afternoon, depicts the common feelings of many old parents: they do not need abundant material things, but need to be listened to, to be close to their children and grandchildren. Watching the film, the audience may encounter themselves - sometimes a heartless child, sometimes a lonely child even in the middle of a crowded city.

The film features the return of two familiar faces of VFC, Anh Dao (Oanh) and Trong Lan (Tuan). Both of them try very hard to overcome their own difficulties of not having experienced family life with children, and relationships with both families. Anh Dao shared that she learned experiences from her own family members, from her mother, sister, sister-in-law...

Anh Dao also demonstrated her versatility when playing the role of a wise, sharp girl, ready to expose her neighbors or maids if she encounters something unpleasant. She is like a piece of the puzzle opposite to Trong Lan's character Tuan, with a personality that is both realistic and sensitive, but gradually her toughness and vigilance have changed, she has become softer and her heart has gradually opened after being hurt.

Trong Lan has also changed from a playboy or a fool into a young father struggling to take care of a child.

Trong Lan and Anh Dao play the roles of single parents.

Sharing about the two actors Trong Lan and Anh Dao, the representative of the scriptwriting team said that the biggest difficulty for both of them is that they are very young, newly married and have never been parents, nor have they ever experienced complicated relationships in a large family. However, coincidentally, both the characters Tuan and Oanh are clumsy fathers and mothers, so the lack of experience of the two actors is an advantage when playing the roles.

The film also features two familiar child actors Gia Nghia and An Nhien, as well as veteran faces such as Meritorious Artist Thanh Binh, Meritorious Artist Tu Oanh...

Housekeepers sometimes put their owners in funny situations in movies.

The highlight of the film is also the two maid characters, Ms. Nga (artist Khanh Linh) and Ms. Tuyet (Meritorious Artist Linh Hue). Artist Khanh Linh said that although these two characters are supporting characters, they have interesting stories, bringing moments of relaxation and joy to the film. Meritorious Artist Linh Hue said that the film not only has a humorous and romantic color but also brings a message about humanity, family love and kindness in life.

The film production team representative also said that the film exploits the perspective of young families in modern life, which is both vibrant and bustling but also lonely and cold when each person narrows the world with a smartphone. People of modern times are always caught up in the whirlwind of career and finance to the point of no longer having time for each other, causing the distance between family members that seem very close and tight, but the break between generations is inevitable.

The two child actors received much praise in previous films.

One of the messages that the film conveys is that for many young families, the help of a maid seems indispensable, so are our lives really our own? Do we really value family life, or do we always find ways to spend less time with our loved ones when work and busyness take us away?

The film "Rainbow on the Horizon" will air at 8pm every Thursday and Friday on VTV3 channel, after "Dusty Roads" ends.
