New journey of Lao students in Ha Tinh

(Baohatinh.vn) - The journey of studying and nurturing the dream of becoming a medical student of Laotian students is always accompanied and wholeheartedly supported by the staff, lecturers and students of Ha Tinh Medical College.

In mid-October, the campus of Ha Tinh Medical College became more bustling and colorful when welcoming more than 80 international students from the two provinces of Bolikhamxay and Savannakhet (Lao People's Democratic Republic) to enroll.

These are young faces with the desire to study and train in a new environment to realize their dream of wearing a white blouse.

According to the training cooperation plan between Ha Tinh and the provinces of Laos, at the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year, 67 students from Bolikhamxay province and 13 students from Savannakhet province arrived at Ha Tinh Medical College to begin a new learning journey. It is expected that at the end of October, a group of students from Khammouane province will also come to study. Currently, the total number of Lao students studying at Ha Tinh Medical College is 342.

Immediately after enrolling, the exchange students are arranged accommodation in a spacious, clean dormitory, ensuring favorable living conditions. In the first days, the thing that students have to get used to the most is the new language and living environment. To help them integrate quickly, Ha Tinh Medical College organizes a 1-year Vietnamese language course, before entering the specialized training program.

In Vietnamese class, the sounds of awkward pronunciation are mixed with cheerful laughter. Many students shared that Vietnamese has many tones, so learning it was quite difficult at first, but with the enthusiastic guidance of teachers and the help of Vietnamese friends, they gradually became more confident and proactive in their studies.

Through a teaching assistant, student Moua Yia from Bolikhamxay expressed: “I am very happy to study at Ha Tinh Medical College. Although I have not been in Vietnam for long, I feel the friendliness and closeness of the teachers and classmates. I will try to learn Vietnamese well to soon study medicine, which I love, and then return to serve my homeland.”

The support of the lecturers has helped Lao students become more confident in their studies.

Not only teaching Vietnamese, the school also focuses on organizing many extracurricular activities and cultural exchanges between Vietnam and Laos. Collective activities, sports and cultural exchanges between the two countries help students understand more about Vietnamese culture, while strengthening friendship and solidarity between the youth of the two nations.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam - a Vietnamese language teacher for Lao students shared: "The students study very hard, always trying to grasp every word and every sentence. Many students take notes, ask questions outside of class and practice speaking with Vietnamese friends. We always try to create a fun and friendly classroom atmosphere so that the students see learning Vietnamese as an interesting journey and not too difficult."

Laotian students who have graduated from the Vietnamese language course assist the lecturers in teaching new students.

It is known that after graduating from the Vietnamese language course, international students will be assigned to the following majors: Pharmacy, Nursing, Physician, Midwifery... depending on the wishes and needs of each locality. The training program is built by the school with a focus on training practical vocational skills, helping students to be able to work immediately after graduation.

Through many training courses, Ha Tinh Medical College has become a trusted address for Lao provinces in training medical human resources. Many former students after returning home have become good medical staff, contributing to improving the quality of health care for people in the localities.

For international students, the journey of studying in Vietnam is not only a path to conquer knowledge but also a time to experience culture and humanity. Seesaket Linfa, an international student from Bolikhamxay province, shared: “Here, I find the teachers and friends very nice. Everyone helps me learn Vietnamese and guides me to participate in school activities. I find Ha Tinh very beautiful, the people are friendly and I want to study well to become a good nurse in the future.”

The connection between Ha Tinh Medical College and the provinces of Laos has contributed to fostering the special friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

Not only teachers, many Vietnamese students at the school also volunteered to help Lao students get used to their new life. Group study sessions, cultural and sports exchanges or meals together in the dormitory have become a bond, helping them get closer, eliminating the gap in language and culture.
