After nearly 10 years of collecting, Mr. Tran Huy Doanh (living in Phu Nhuan District, Ho Chi Minh City) owns thousands of works and products made from various types of gemstones. His private gallery and his companion Tran Duy Khoa have many very sophisticated quartz stone carvings.
On the occasion of the Year of the Dragon, the collection has a new quartz statue carved with 9 dragons named "Nine Dragons Unified". The statue weighs 27kg, is 60cm high, is made from a single block of stone, carved in a tetrahedron style, with pearls and nine cauldrons in the middle.
Surrounding the two balls are nine meticulously hand-carved dragons, very sophisticated. Mr. Doanh said this work was carved from a single block of stone by 3-4 foreign artisans in 2 years, and is valued at more than 2 billion VND. The statue symbolizes unity, prosperity, happiness, and abundance.
This dragon statue is made of rosewood and was crafted by an artisan in Quang Nam province 3 years ago.
The work weighs about 50kg, includes many dragons, and is decorated with pearls made from precious stones.
The statue "One Dragon Fist King" weighs 2.6 kg and depicts a writhing dragon spitting out pearls. It took about half a year to create.
In the collector's gallery there are also some small carved dragon statues made of quartz stone.
"A rough block of stone, through the hands of an artisan, becomes a work of art with great value, and that is what makes me passionate about collecting," Mr. Doanh shared.
This is one of the statues that Mr. Doanh likes the most in the collection, depicting the birth of Buddha, the base is carved with 9 elaborate dragons. In the future, he will re-create it so that the dragons can spray water around.
