COVID-19 vaccine strategy for public health, all people
In 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, Vietnam launched the largest vaccination campaign in history with the goal of achieving community immunity. The representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Vietnam affirmed that all COVID-19 vaccines chosen for use in Vietnam have been approved by this organization, ensuring safety and effectiveness. With the long-term vision of finding a fundamental solution to get the country out of the epidemic, as soon as the epidemic broke out and spread in many countries, the Party and State of Vietnam were determined to implement the vaccine strategy. The vaccine strategy is given special attention with specific directions: accessing vaccine sources from outside; strengthening international cooperation to transfer technology and produce vaccines; promptly organizing domestic vaccine research and production [caption id="attachment_605089" align="alignnone" width="768"]
The Government and the Ministry of Health are working day and night to vaccinate the entire population against COVID-19.[/caption] In order for the vaccine strategy to be implemented as soon as possible, ensuring safety and highest efficiency, many specific policies and guidelines have been issued. In addition to focusing on many measures such as strengthening negotiations and mobilizing finance to purchase and import vaccines. The Vietnamese Government has also established a COVID-19 Vaccine Fund to call for support from compatriots at home and abroad, businesses and international friends. The leaders of the Party, State and Government have not been particular about the method of implementation, whether bilateral or multilateral diplomatic relations, whether domestic or foreign contacts, whether phone calls or letters to leaders of other countries, ... the content of calling for support and provision of vaccines for Vietnam has always been raised. Along with that is the active participation of ministries, departments, branches, functional agencies, ambassadors, heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad, as well as the participation of many organizations and individuals at home and abroad to obtain the fastest and largest vaccine source possible. Vietnam's acumen in implementing the vaccine strategy, especially "vaccine diplomacy", has helped us quickly and effectively access vaccine sources from the COVAX mechanism as well as valuable support from many countries such as Japan, the US, Russia, China, Australia, the UK, Germany, India, ... through different forms. That is also an important basis for the Ministry of Health to announce on August 5 that Vietnam has signed a contract to buy 31 million doses of Pfizer and is in the process of purchasing an additional 20 million doses. With the right and timely vaccine strategy, implemented in both depth and breadth, Vietnam has received a relatively abundant supply of vaccines, helping to achieve the goal of having 90% of the population vaccinated against COVID-19 by the third quarter of 2022, equivalent to 150 million doses of vaccine. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs once assessed that the brightest point of diplomacy during the outbreak was the vaccine diplomacy policy, which contributed to the country's overall results in mobilizing and receiving more than 14 million doses of vaccine, although the world's vaccine supply was scarce and Vietnam effectively implemented the epidemic prevention and control, so it was not a country prioritized for vaccines. This result is very important in many aspects, from domestic, foreign, defense, security to socio-economics. The goal in the last 6 months of the year is to continue to promote vaccine diplomacy in the form of aid, technology sales and transfer, as well as promoting the supply of medical equipment and supplies; focus on monitoring and detecting new trends during and after the COVID-19 pandemic to inform and advise the Government in implementing strategies and orientations for national development... Assessing Vietnam's "vaccine diplomacy" policy, Ms. Bich Tran, Assistant to the Southeast Asia Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (headquartered in Washington, USA) said: "The bright spot is Vietnam's foreign policy, when it donated masks and medical equipment to other countries since the beginning of the pandemic. Thanks to the position and good relationships that Vietnam has built, countries around the world are willing to help Vietnam by sharing vaccine sources". In particular, since the 2021-2022 COVID-19 vaccination campaign was launched, some people have used social media to attack and sabotage the vaccine policy, including some famous people, causing great public outrage. By posting inaccurate or unverified information on social media about the effectiveness of certain vaccines, these people openly incite and oppose the Party and State's policies in disease prevention and control, even calling for a boycott of the vaccine that they arbitrarily call "waste", "terrible, not only providing poor protection but also leading to the emergence of new virus variants", and then slandering "the government disregards the lives and health of the people"! That is an irresponsible way of speaking, deceiving public opinion, despite the fact that has been confirmed by WHO representatives as well as the actual implementation results in many countries around the world. The vaccines currently used in Vietnam have all been approved by WHO, ensuring safety and effectiveness. Many countries around the world have been using these vaccines and achieved positive results in preventing and fighting Covid-19. Therefore, the actions of some extremist and ill-intentioned organizations and individuals not only make it difficult for the extremely tense epidemic prevention and control work, but also affect international relations. Hostile forces even see this as an opportunity to slander the Vietnamese State, incite ethnic hatred, and plot to sabotage and overthrow the regime. To protect the health of the community, vaccination is both a right and a responsibility of every citizen. Therefore, those who are prioritized for vaccination need to cooperate and seriously follow the instructions and allocations of the authorities. Hesitation, comparison, and pickiness in choosing vaccines not only lead to the risk of missing out on the opportunity to protect the health of themselves and their families, but also make the epidemic increasingly difficult to control; at the same time, as responsible citizens, we should not follow the rhetoric of discriminating against this type of vaccine and promoting that type to avoid falling into the schemes of petty, selfish, ill-intentioned people.
