Việt NamViệt Nam03/04/2024

In the history of building and defending the country of our people, the Dien Bien Phu victory is one of the brilliant peaks, a glorious miracle of the Ho Chi Minh era. In the resistance war against French colonialism, the Dien Bien Phu victory was the greatest victory, dealing a decisive blow that created a historical turning point that completely changed the situation of the war between us and the enemy, directly leading to the signing of the Geneva Agreement on ending the war and restoring peace in Indochina. On December 19, 1946, with President Ho's call for national resistance, our entire Party, people and army bravely entered the long-term resistance war against the invading French colonialists. In that situation, on December 6, 1953, the Politburo met and assessed that Dien Bien Phu was a strong stronghold group but the enemy's fundamental weakness was isolation. On our side, Dien Bien Phu was the largest-scale battle ever; took place in rugged mountainous areas, the artillery maneuvering route was difficult, the preparation time for the campaign was short, but it had very important military, political and diplomatic significance. Our biggest difficulty was the problem of logistics supply, but we could overcome it. The Politburo decided to launch the Dien Bien Phu Campaign and approved the combat plan, established the Campaign Command, the Front Party Committee with General Vo Nguyen Giap as Commander and Secretary of the Campaign Party Committee. The Government decided to establish the Front Supply Council with comrade Pham Van Dong as Chairman. With the special importance of the campaign, the Politburo and the Central Military Commission decided to concentrate 04 infantry divisions, 1 artillery division with a total of over 40,000 soldiers. Implementing the Politburo's decision, all preparations for the campaign were carried out urgently. The whole country concentrated its strength on the Dien Bien Phu front with the slogan "All for the front, all for victory". The main army units quickly gathered, day and night clearing forests, cutting mountains to open roads, hauling artillery, building battlefields, ready to attack the enemy. 261,451 laborers and youth volunteers braved bombs and bullets, heading to Dien Bien to ensure logistics for the campaign. The decisive strategic battle of Dien Bien Phu took place in 3 phases: - Phase 1: From March 13 to March 17, 1954, our army cleverly and bravely destroyed the Him Lam and Doc Lap strongholds, the Ban Keo stronghold, broke the northern gateway of the Dien Bien Phu stronghold group; killed and captured over 2,000 enemies, destroyed 25 planes, wiped out 01 regiment, threatened Muong Thanh airport; Pirot, the French artillery commander in Dien Bien Phu, was helpless before our artillery and committed suicide with a grenade. - Phase 2: From March 30 to April 30, 1954, our army simultaneously attacked the strongholds in the East of the central sub-sector, tightened the siege, divided and continuously attacked, controlled Muong Thanh airport, and limited enemy reinforcements for the stronghold group. The enemy was extremely stubborn, wanting to prolong the time. General Nava hoped that by the rainy season we would have to lift the siege. This was the most persistent, longest, most fierce, and most difficult attack, we and the enemy fought for every inch of land, every section of trench. Especially at Hill Cl, we and the enemy fought for 20 days, Hill A1 fought for 30 days. After the second attack, the central area of Dien Bien Phu was within range of our guns, the enemy fell into a state of passivity and extreme demoralization. - Phase 3: From May 1 to May 7, 1954, our army captured the eastern strongholds and launched a general attack to destroy the entire Dien Bien Phu stronghold. On the night of May 6, 1954, at Hill A1, the battle between us and the enemy was fierce. Our army rushed forward to destroy the bunkers and used explosives to destroy the enemy's fortified underground bunkers. The commander of Hill A1 and about 400 surviving enemy soldiers had to surrender. At 5:30 p.m. on May 7, 1954, we captured the enemy's command post. General De Castries and the entire General Staff and soldiers of the Dien Bien Phu stronghold had to surrender. The "Determined to Fight, Determined to Win" flag of our army flew on the roof of the enemy's command bunker. That same night, our army continued to attack the Southern sub-region, forcing the enemy to flee to Upper Laos. By 24 hours, all enemy soldiers had been captured. After 55 days and nights of brave, resourceful and creative fighting, our army and people crushed the entire Dien Bien Phu stronghold, destroyed and captured 16,200 enemies, shot down 62 planes, seized 64 cars and all of the enemy's weapons, ammunition and military equipment. The 1953-1954 Winter-Spring strategic offensive, culminating in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, was a strategic decisive battle, a typical annihilation battle, directly leading to the signing of the Geneva Agreement on ending the war and restoring peace in Indochina. It created the foundation and conditions for our people to move forward to gain great victory in the resistance war against the US, liberating the South and unifying the country. The Dien Bien Phu victory ended the nine-year resistance war against French colonialism and American intervention; completely ending the invasion of French colonialism in our country and other countries on the Indochina peninsula; protecting and developing the achievements of the August Revolution; opened a new revolutionary stage, carried out the socialist revolution in the North, fought to liberate the South, reunified the Fatherland, and led the whole country to socialism. The Dien Bien Phu victory increased national pride and absolute confidence in the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam founded and trained by President Ho Chi Minh; encouraged the entire Party, the entire people, and the entire army to fight with one heart and one mind under the glorious flag of the Party, for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, for the happiness of the people. The Dien Bien Phu victory was of epochal significance, contributing greatly to the movement for peace and progress of humanity. The Dien Bien Phu victory dealt a fatal blow to the foundations of French colonialism and American intervention, destroying the citadel of old colonialism at the most crucial position, marking the collapse of old colonialism on a global scale; signaling the failure of the global counter-revolutionary strategy of neo-colonialism led by American imperialism. The Dien Bien Phu victory was a common victory of the countries on the Indochina peninsula, a victory of the international communist and workers' movement, of the movement for peace and social progress throughout the world. The Dien Bien Phu victory of our nation proved a truth of the times: if oppressed and invaded nations have a strong will and a correct, creative line, and know how to unite to fight for independence and freedom, that nation will certainly win; it urged and encouraged colonial countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America to rise up and fight for self-liberation, to escape the yoke of colonialism and imperialism. Promoting the spirit of "Determination to fight, Determination to win" of Dien Bien Phu, our entire Party, people and army proactively seized the opportunity, overcame all difficulties and challenges to build and firmly defend the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam. The historic victory of Dien Bien Phu dealt a decisive blow, smashing the last efforts of French colonialism and American intervention, directly leading to the signing of the Geneva Agreement on ending the war and restoring peace in Indochina; half of the country was liberated, opening a new revolutionary period to bring the North to socialism, creating a solid rear for the cause of fighting to liberate the South and unify the Fatherland. The victory of Dien Bien Phu has become a precious spiritual heritage. Following the historic victory of Dien Bien Phu in 1954, our nation continued to write a brilliant heroic epic in the Ho Chi Minh era, achieving the glorious feat of Dien Bien Phu in the air in 1972; The Ho Chi Minh Campaign in 1975 completely liberated the South, reunified the country, and led the whole country to socialism; achieved great and historic achievements in the renovation process over the past 30 years, bringing our country to a new height, new position and strength, proactively and actively integrating and cooperating internationally. Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, we are proud of the glorious Communist Party of Vietnam, a true Marxist-Leninist Party; proud of President Ho Chi Minh, a world cultural celebrity - national liberation hero, founder and trainer of our Party; proud of the heroic nation, the people's armed forces, and the invincible Vietnam People's Army. The historic victory of Dien Bien Phu will forever be a source of pride and a source of strength to encourage our entire Party, people and army to strive to successfully implement the socio-economic development goals and tasks in 2014, the Resolutions of Party Congresses at all levels, the Resolution of the 11th National Party Congress and the resolutions and conclusions of the Central Conference. Actively deploy, disseminate, propagate and enforce the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to raise people's sense of responsibility, respect, comply with and protect the Constitution for the goal of a prosperous people, a strong country, democracy, fairness and civilization.
