Agoda has just released the Travel Trends 2026 Report from this digital travel platform. Accordingly, “the key factor for markets to attract more Vietnamese tourists is to simplify visa procedures,” said Mr. Vu Ngoc Lam, Country Director of Agoda in Vietnam.

As Vietnam’s middle class grows, so does the desire to explore new destinations. Agoda’s survey found that 91% of respondents said they would travel more often if visa procedures were relaxed and access to new countries became easier.

In addition, 58% of Vietnamese travelers said that removing visa barriers would encourage them to plan to visit more new countries and destinations. Specifically, 6/10 people said that visa policies are currently, or are likely to, affect their travel plans.

“The Travel Trends 2026 report provides a clear insight into what Vietnamese travelers are looking for in the coming year, from easier access to visas in new destinations, to budget accommodation options and memorable trips with family and loved ones. This shows that visa policies have a strong impact on their travel plans, especially when barriers are removed, they are willing to explore more,” said Mr. Vu Ngoc Lam.

Notably, according to the Henley Passport Index 2025, the Vietnamese passport is ranked 89th with 50 countries allowing visa-free entry, showing great potential for markets that want to attract more Vietnamese tourists. This is also the reason why Vietnamese people prioritize domestic trips. Specifically, 50% of tourists plan to travel domestically instead of internationally (up 26% compared to last year).

Aside from visas, Vietnamese tourists prioritize cost savings when choosing a place to stay. More than 90% of respondents said they were willing to spend a maximum of VND2.6 million per night, of which 56% planned to spend less than VND1.3 million (USD50) per night; while only 36% planned to spend between VND1.3-2.6 million (USD51-100) per night.

The need for rest and relaxation is the main motivation for Vietnamese tourists when traveling, with 45% considering vacations as the ideal time to recharge. Cultural exploration (43%) and culinary experiences (35%) ranked second and third respectively./.
