Nguyen Filip is back
Goalkeeper Nguyen Filip will join the Hanoi Police Club (CAHN Club) in the final match of the Southeast Asian Cup C1 against Buriram, with the first leg taking place at 7:30 p.m. today (May 14).
After the mid-season turmoil, with his time as a reserve in the Vietnam national team or the mistakes he made in the V-League, Nguyen Filip is returning to the race.
After completing family matters to return from the beginning of April until now, the goalkeeper born in 1992 has been "in form" with 8 consecutive matches for CAHN Club in all competitions. Nguyen Filip kept a clean sheet in 4 out of the last 7 matches, with a total of 12 saves.

Among them, there were important saves, such as the precise sliding to block Ngoc Long's shot (HCMC FC), helping the club escape defeat at home. Or in the match against PSM Makassar (second leg of the Asian Cup 1 semi-final), Nguyen Filip also had a miraculous flying move at close range to block Rahman's close-range header. Most recently in the match against Ha Tinh , it was Nguyen Filip with his excellent stretching strength who blocked Huynh Tien Dat's beautiful volley.
The solidity of the "steel wall" who was voted the best goalkeeper of the Czech Republic in 2019 has returned at the right time. When regaining his form and confidence, Nguyen Filip is a goalkeeper who is difficult to beat. He has basic, standard techniques after 8 years of training in Europe, extensive experience in top-level competition, along with height and reflexes to handle all situations well.
Nguyen Filip has encountered psychological difficulties, such as the initial period of returning to Vietnam with the language barrier, or the difficult time due to being a reserve in the AFF Cup 2024. However, having overcome the storm, the 33-year-old goalkeeper is regaining what he lost with 6 clean sheets (an average of 1 goal conceded every 116 minutes) in the V-League this season.
CAHN Club has a historic opportunity in the Southeast Asian C1 Cup. Quang Hai's hope.
A match worth watching
In the final match of the ASEAN Club Championship taking place at 7:30 p.m. today, CAHN Club will face a "giant" obstacle named Buriram United.
Buriram has just successfully defended the Thai League title, reached the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League Elite (only losing to champions Al Ahli-Saudi) and is on its way to sweeping the Southeast Asian Cup 1.
In the hands of coach Osmar Loss Vieira are attacking talents such as Theerathon Bunmathan, Supachai Jaided, Guilherme Bissoli... With well-rounded and skillful individuals, along with beautiful and cohesive passing style of play, Buriram has scored 92 goals after 30 matches in the Thai League, an average of 3 goals/match. Buriram's number of goals is 27 goals more than the second-highest scoring team in the tournament.

At the ASEAN Club Championship, despite only fielding a reserve team, Buriram easily advanced through the group stage, then crushed fellow countrymen BG Pathum in the semi-finals. In the group stage, CAHN Club was under immense pressure from Buriram at Hang Day Stadium. Coach Alexandre Polking and his team only won thanks to taking advantage of their opportunities better.
Tonight, with the strongest squad, Buriram will play very differently from the group stage match. The pressure on the CAHN club's goal is not small, requiring Nguyen Filip to play very focused. This is a difficulty, but also an opportunity for the 33-year-old goalkeeper to assert himself.
Nguyen Filip needs a big match, against a worthy opponent, to prove the class of the goalkeeper who has been trained under European pressure.
Compared to his competitors for the starting position in the Vietnam national team, Nguyen Filip is the only goalkeeper currently playing at the international club level. Therefore, a good performance will help the CAHN club goalkeeper score points with coach Kim Sang-sik of the Vietnam national team.
Although Nguyen Filip had to be on the bench at the 2024 AFF Cup because he did not get along with goalkeeper coach Lee Woon-jae, in the context of Dinh Trieu having many injuries, and Van Viet and Trung Kien being too young, Nguyen Filip is still the top candidate. He needed a boost, and Buriram came, to give the goalkeeper with mixed Vietnamese and Czech blood a chance to accelerate.
