Prevent grid "heating" with saving habits

In the summer, prolonged heat causes high demand for electricity, potentially overloading the system. Using electricity economically and efficiently is a practical solution to ensure grid safety, serving well the needs of daily life and production.

Hoa Binh Electricity Company has directed its affiliated units to increase communication about electricity saving to customers. This is an important solution to ensure electricity supply during the hot season.

As one of the largest electricity consumers in the province, Dai A Industrial Joint Stock Company (Luong Son Industrial Park) has implemented many synchronous solutions to save electricity and improve energy efficiency. In 2024, the company's electricity consumption reached over 33 million kWh. By 2025, the company aims to maintain the same level of electricity consumption but increase product output thanks to technological solutions and reasonable production organization.

Mr. Chu Quoc Dat, Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of the company, said: In 2024, the company has closely coordinated with Hoa Binh Electricity Company in using electricity safely and effectively, without interrupting production activities. To reduce electricity costs, the company invested in replacing high-power consuming equipment with energy-saving equipment, optimizing the automation system on the production line, and deploying an automatic LED lighting system, both saving electricity and ensuring lighting efficiency.

In addition, the company proactively coordinates with the Electricity industry to develop a production plan in line with maintenance and power outage schedules. Currently, the company is researching investment in rooftop solar power systems according to the self-production and self-consumption model, reducing dependence on the national grid, especially during peak hours. "We have adjusted the production plan to reduce the load during peak hours, limiting the simultaneous use of many large-capacity devices. Some not-so-urgent stages are moved to a more suitable time to both ensure progress and reduce pressure on the power system. In particular, during the peak hot months (May, June, July, August), we have moved production activities outside the time frames from 13:00 to 15:00 and from 20:00 to 23:00," Mr. Dat shared.

According to Mr. Nguyen Phuc Thinh, Director of Hoa Binh Power Company, in 2025, the electricity load of the province and the entire North is expected to continue to grow at a high rate, while the additional domestic power source is insignificant. In Hoa Binh alone, the electricity load in the summer is forecasted to reach Pmax 322 MW, an increase of 17.3% over the same period in 2024; the load for the whole year is forecasted to reach Pmax 353 MW, an increase of 15%. The supply of electricity to serve socio -economic development and people's lives will face many pressures, especially during peak hours at noon (12:00 - 15:00) and in the evening (20:00 - 24:00), when both domestic and production loads increase, which may cause local capacity shortages in many areas.

Faced with this situation, Hoa Binh Power Company has synchronously deployed many solutions to ensure safe and stable power supply. The focus is on the Load Adjustment Program (DR), encouraging large customers to participate in load shifting to avoid grid overload. Up to now, the whole province has 87 industrial customers consuming over 1 million kWh/year participating in load shifting agreements, with a total DR capacity of 34.3 MW. At the same time, there are 90 customers with 105 measurement points performing load shifting during peak hours, with a total shifting capacity estimated at 13 MW.

Working together to use electricity safely and economically not only helps reduce operating costs for businesses and save people's lives, but is also a practical action to protect the stability of the national power system. When each individual and each organization changes their electricity usage habits, we work together to "cool down" the power grid, overcoming the extremely hot summer days with more initiative and sustainability.
