Before leaving for China, coach Philippe Troussier officially announced the list of Vietnam team for 3 friendly matches on FIFA Days in October 2023 against China, Uzbekistan and South Korea. This is considered the team's final practice session for the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia in November.
The announced list is a harmonious combination of young players and famous seniors on the Vietnam national team. Among them, two young players who are gathering with the national team for the first time have been trusted and given opportunities by the French strategist: Ho Van Cuong and Vo Minh Trong.
With young players given the opportunity, Coach Troussier is aiming to build a core force to inherit for the second qualifying round, even the 2026 World Cup finals.
The players who have been present in the past 5 days of training are expected to be the main force to face China on October 10.
In addition, the Vietnamese team's shortlist includes many players from Hanoi and Hai Phong clubs. These players have not had the best preparation time after serving their home teams in the AFC Cup and AFC Champions League.
According to the plan, the whole team will move to China on the evening of October 7. The next three opponents of the Vietnamese team will be host China (ranked 80th, October 10), Uzbekistan (ranked 75th, October 13 in China) and host Korea (ranked 26th, October 17).
