President: Creativity creates sustainable value for traditional products

The President emphasized that the creativity and talent of artisans are the most important factors creating uniqueness and lasting value for traditional handicraft products.

On the afternoon of June 10, at the Presidential Palace,President Luong Cuong had a friendly meeting with outstanding artisans from craft villages nationwide on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Craft Villages Association.

Also attending the meeting were Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh; Head of the Office of the President Le Khanh Hai; representatives of leaders of a number of central ministries and branches; leaders of the Vietnam Craft Villages Association and outstanding artisans, representing more than 5,400 craft villages nationwide.

At the meeting, Chairman of the Vietnam Craft Villages Association Trinh Quoc Dat said that Vietnamese craft villages always hold an important position in the economic and cultural life of the country.

Craft village products always carry the cultural identity of the region, preserving the thousand-year-old cultural quintessence of our people.

Traditional crafts in craft villages have been passed down through many generations, refined and developed as a valuable asset of the country. With the attention of the Party and the State, in nearly 40 years of renovation, Vietnamese craft villages have made great strides in recovery and development.

Currently, the country has 5,411 craft villages and villages with crafts. In 20 years of operation, with more than 13,000 individual and collective members, the Vietnam Craft Villages Association has organized many activities to remove difficulties for members, promote and build brands for many craft villages.

The Association organizes events and trade promotion activities, providing support so that many products of its members have the opportunity to develop strongly in the domestic and export markets; makes many efforts in performing the role of social criticism, widely gathering opinions of its members in building and implementing policies and laws, and making practical contributions to the movement of building new rural areas, preserving and promoting national cultural identity, developing the economy, trade, tourism, and improving income and living standards of people in craft villages.

The Vietnam Craft Village Association has also made an important contribution to preserving and promoting the value of traditional handicrafts; at the same time, it has actively participated in teaching crafts to rural workers, conducting hundreds of vocational training courses, “Business Start-up” and “Business Administration” programs, helping craft village enterprises operate effectively and practically. Many artisans of Vietnamese craft villages have been awarded the titles of People's Artisan and Meritorious Artisan.

Sharing at the meeting, representatives of craft villages mentioned the development process of each craft village, the advantages and difficulties in the process of preserving and continuing traditional crafts that have been passed down through many generations in the context of practical life with many changes towards modernity; at the same time, they made many recommendations to preserve and develop the strengths of traditional craft villages, thereby promoting the quintessence values ​​for the nation.

Expressing his joy at meeting the outstanding artisans representing more than 5,400 craft villages nationwide, President Luong Cuong pointed out that the country has gone through many ups and downs of history spanning thousands of years, Vietnamese culture has been passed down through many generations, with profound imprints, depicting the beautiful country of Vietnam; the Vietnamese people are intelligent, skillful, united, resilient, humane, and peaceful, which is very proud.

And one of the unique features, imbued with national cultural identity, is the traditional craft villages. Craft villages are places that preserve pure Vietnamese culture, are places that produce handicraft products, not only of practical value, but also of high artistic value, demonstrating the talent, creativity and ingenuity of Vietnamese artisans; at the same time, are places that solve jobs for millions of workers, contribute to structural change, promote socio-economic development and international integration.

The President affirmed that in the past struggle for national independence and unification, as well as in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland today, the Party, Uncle Ho and the State have always paid attention to and promoted, and issued many policies and guidelines to give craft villages and artisans the opportunity to develop, contribute their talents, create, preserve, and provide many traditional cultural products rich in identity, meeting domestic consumption needs and reaching out to the international market, actively contributing to the economy, building new rural areas, ensuring social security, and building an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity.

Delighted with the strong development of the artisan force, with a large and highly skilled team recognized by society, the President emphasized that in the past time, in the context of many difficulties in the domestic and international markets, but with the attention and leadership of the Party, the State, the central and local ministries and branches, with love for the profession, responsibility and burning enthusiasm, artisans and craft villages have united, strived to overcome difficulties, innovated and improved product quality, sought markets to rise up and have made new developments.

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, the President acknowledged and commended the very proud results of the Vietnam Craft Village Association and artisans nationwide in recent times; at the same time, he welcomed the central and local ministries, branches and localities that have proactively and actively coordinated with the Party and State to propose policies and solutions to restore, preserve, honor and develop traditional craft villages, create livelihoods for people, promote the value of traditional crafts and the cultural identity of craft villages in the process of deep international integration of the country.

Stating that the country is preparing to enter a new era - an era of strong and prosperous development with many advantages and opportunities, intertwined with many difficulties and challenges, the President said that in the development process, handicrafts are also an industry that faces fierce competition due to the increasingly high demands of international integration and national development. Although many important and proud results have been achieved, it is also necessary to frankly acknowledge that production and business activities in craft villages today still have many shortcomings and difficulties that need to be overcome and resolved.

In that context, in order for craft villages to continue to develop strongly, for traditional handicraft products to increasingly reach out, have increasingly greater prestige and brand in the domestic and international markets, the President requested that all levels, sectors, localities, craft village associations and artisans pay special attention to preserving and promoting national culture, considering this a strategic task, an obligation and responsibility of all levels, sectors and the whole society.

According to the President, the creativity and talent of artisans are the most important factors creating uniqueness and lasting value for traditional handicraft products; artisans are not only skilled workers but also people with creative aspirations, passion and great love for the profession.

Assessing that in every stage of the country's development, craft villages are still the place to ensure a sustainable life, the safest, closest and most accessible pillar for the rural labor force, ensuring social security, the President noted the need to further promote vocational training, arouse a strong entrepreneurial spirit among the young labor force in rural areas; constantly pay attention to and take care of improving the material and spiritual life of people in craft villages.

Along with that, the President requested to continue promoting the role of social organizations, professional societies, associations, trade associations, craft village associations, and industries in linking and gathering strength for mutual development; organizing production, business, promoting trade, and advertising products; improving productivity, quality, and diversifying products associated with promoting the application of science and technology, increasingly meeting the tastes of consumers and society; at the same time, paying special attention to building and protecting brands and organizing the creation of sustainable sources of raw materials in the production and business process.

On the other hand, the President suggested actively disseminating and updating knowledge, training and improving skills systematically and methodically; enhancing skills and market tastes, stimulating creative talents, protecting the legitimate rights of producers; improving legal understanding, sharing information and experience, creating a space and favorable environment for generations of artisans, skilled workers and craft village people to develop their maximum potential.

The President said that at the same time, it is necessary to pay special attention to environmental protection in craft villages, to propagate and mobilize people to implement the model of sustainable economic development, green economy, circular economy, and environmental friendliness; to develop occupations in parallel with sustainable development, to ensure social security, and to improve the quality of life and safety for people in craft villages.

Regarding the proposals and recommendations of the association representatives and artisans, the President acknowledged and requested relevant ministries, branches, agencies and organizations to strengthen research and propose solutions to improve mechanisms and policies to promote the development of craft villages in Vietnam; accompany and support craft villages, encourage national pride and self-esteem, honor and motivate artisans and skilled workers, especially the younger generation, to stick with, preserve, conserve and promote traditional crafts.

Ministries and sectors should pay more attention to preferential policies for artisans; foster and expand advanced models; continue to promote the recognition of state honorary titles - People's Artisan, Meritorious Artisan in a timely manner, with high impact./.
