On June 11, the People's Committee of Dong Nai province held the death anniversary of Thanh Hau Nguyen Huu Canh in 2025 and presented the decision to recognize the death anniversary of Thanh Hau Nguyen Huu Canh as a national intangible cultural heritage.
From early morning, delegates participated in the parade carrying offerings, performing the ritual of offering offerings, burning incense, releasing lucky balloons; listening to the reading of a congratulatory speech in memory of Le Thanh Hau Nguyen Huu Canh, and reviewing the history of the formation and development of Bien Hoa-Dong Nai.
In 1698, 327 years ago, Commander Nguyen Huu Canh obeyed the order of Lord Nguyen to go to the South. Following the waterway, Nguyen Huu Canh's boat went upstream from Dong Nai to Cu Lao Pho, summoned the local elders to give orders to stabilize and organize life, establish a register, establish Tran Bien Palace, starting the period when the southern land became an administrative part of Dang Trong.
In 1700, Commander Nguyen Huu Canh passed away. The people of Bien Hoa-Dong Nai respected his contributions and converted Binh Hoanh communal house of Binh Hoanh village, Bien Hoa town into Binh Kinh communal house to worship him with deep admiration, forever remembering his contributions to the enlightenment of Dong Nai land.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Son Hung emphasized that Le Thanh Hau Nguyen Huu Canh was a talented general, an outstanding politician and military man who obeyed Lord Nguyen's orders to inspect Dong Nai land, establish the new land as Gia Dinh prefecture, establish sovereignty, establish an administrative system and organize life for Vietnamese residents in Dong Nai in particular and the South in general. His contributions will be remembered forever by history and the people.
This year's anniversary is more special as it was listed in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
This is not only a commemorative activity for a founding father but also a symbol of the spirit of remembering the source of water, showing deep gratitude to those who have contributed to the discovery and construction of the Dong Nai-Southern region.

To preserve and promote the traditional values of the death anniversary of Thanh Hau Nguyen Huu Canh, the Vice Chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee suggested that the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinate with localities and relevant units to preserve and restore the original values of the festival; encourage the collection, digitization, and recording of texts, images, and sounds about the death anniversary each year to build a rich heritage archive to serve research and teaching.
In particular, the Department of Research will compile a scientific dossier to advise the People's Committee of Dong Nai province to submit to the Prime Minister for decision to recognize a special national relic in the coming time. In addition, the unit will promote the role of the community in practicing and preserving cultural heritage values; promote communication and promote heritage values.
On this occasion, the People's Committee of Dong Nai province presented the decision of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recognizing the death anniversary of Thanh Hau Nguyen Huu Canh as a national intangible cultural heritage to the Nguyen Huu Canh Temple's Worshiping Board.
