Foreign tourists take photos of the crescent lake at Tu Hieu Pagoda

Slow down in the space of Hue pagoda

If Hue pagoda tourism is famous for Thien Mu Quoc Tu on Ha Khe hill, facing the poetic Huong river, pagodas located in many other places are also sought out and explored by tourists in their own way.

One afternoon in late March, many Western tourists came to the ancient Tu Hieu pagoda on Duong Xuan hill (Le Ngo Cat street, Thuy Xuan ward, Thuan Hoa district). In the ancient space and the typical Hue garden, after worshiping Buddha, many tourists leisurely admired the pagoda with its system of hills, gardens, crescent lake, bell house and eunuch cemetery...

Not bustling and noisy, but instead the silence and the sound of pine trees attract those who come here. “There are many pagodas in Hue, including Tu Hieu Pagoda, which are wonderful. Besides the beautiful scenery, everything here is worth a long stop for visitors, to immerse themselves in the quiet space, to “heal” from the noise of the world”, shared Ms. Nguyen Kim Thanh - a tourist from Hanoi .

Although she has been to Hue many times, Ms. Thanh always visits Tu Hieu Pagoda. The landscape and traditional architecture of Hue pagodas in general and Tu Hieu in particular have captivated her since she stepped through the three-door gate. “Hue pagodas have unique features that cannot be found anywhere else. The pagoda in Hue is scientifically arranged. In addition to the small main hall located in the middle of a large garden, inside that space, the ancient trees, lakes, etc. are very beautiful!”, Ms. Thanh said.

Not only domestic visitors, this pagoda has recently welcomed many international visitors. According to our observations, besides individual visitors, there are also many groups of visitors coming to Tu Hieu and they spend a lot of time stopping here. Most of them have the same opinion that the quiet scenery of the pagoda seems to slow down time so that people can breathe and feel the fresh, peaceful air.

“Most of Hue’s pagodas in general and Tu Hieu Pagoda in particular have a scene like a paradise on earth. When you set foot here, it’s like stepping into another world. Everything feels lighter, the energy is more abundant and you feel like yourself,” Ms. Anna, a tourist from France, shared and affirmed that she will return to Hue to explore more ancient pagodas.

Like to learn about Buddhist culture

Located far from the center of Hue, over the past decade, Huyen Khong Son Thuong Pagoda (Long Ho Ward, Phu Xuan District) has become an attractive destination, increasingly attracting tourists from all over. The pagoda is known as "a paradise on earth" with its charming scenery, located on a high mountain, welcoming many tourists every day.

The highlight of Huyen Khong Son Thuong is the calligraphy system and all kinds of orchids arranged in many spaces inside, captivating visitors. "Everything is like a fairyland, wild but tidy thanks to the careful hands of the monks. The whole garden of the pagoda is like a work of art," said Mr. Nguyen Quy (Hue City) when he arrived at Huyen Khong Son Thuong Pagoda.

With many years of experience as a tour guide, Mr. Le Duc Hoang (tour guide in Hue City) said that Vietnamese and foreign tourists when coming to a land with a rich culture and history like the ancient capital of Hue, in addition to visiting the heritage system, also want to experience the temples. Some of the temples that tourists often visit are Thien Mu, Tu Hieu, Thien Lam, Huyen Khong Son Thuong... There, in addition to cultural and historical values, tourists also love the landscape system. "Especially for foreign tourists, learning about Buddhist culture and the spiritual life of Hue people is a topic of great interest to them. Therefore, they often register for tours or go to the temples themselves to visit," Mr. Hoang shared.

Having guided tourists to most of the famous ancient temples in Hue, Mr. Hoang said that both Western and Vietnamese tourists when coming here feel peaceful, not affected by the noise of the city, which is an extremely interesting silence in the journey. This tour guide also admitted that "wanting to guide tourists to the temples is also a way for me to feel "slow down" before the hustle and bustle of life".

Mr. Le Duc Hoang also gave advice that whether individual or group visitors to Hue pagodas need to be polite and tactful to fit in with the “life rhythm” of the pagoda. In addition, it is necessary to comply with the pagoda’s regulations and not create offensive or unsightly images.

“From the perspective of a tour guide, I also hope that the pagodas provide information about the activities and ceremonies of the pagodas so that tourists can know and the tour guides can grasp the information, thereby conveying it to tourists. That is also a way to promote the cultural values of Hue in general and the Buddhist culture of Hue in particular,” Hoang confided.
