Localities have stepped up propaganda and integrated environmental protection into the campaign “All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas” and village and hamlet conventions. Many activities in response to “World Environment Day”, “Campaign to make the world cleaner”, “World Meteorological Day”, “World Water Day”... have been organized. At the same time, people have been encouraged to follow the “4 rights” in using pesticides, and build models for collecting, recycling and treating waste.
Every Friday, members of the “Collecting, classifying, and treating waste” model of the Lao Women’s Association, Chieng La Commune, organize a general cleaning of the village’s roads and alleys. The waste is divided into three types: organic, recyclable inorganic, and non-recyclable inorganic. Ms. Lo Thi Ngoai, Head of the Women’s Association, said: Non-recyclable waste is processed at the village’s incinerator; recycled waste is collected and sold to raise funds to support members in buying vegetable seeds, breeding animals, and animal feed... In addition, to treat waste in livestock farming, the group has composted manure with microorganisms, producing over 15 tons of organic fertilizer to fertilize crops.
In residential areas of Muong Gion commune, environmental protection work has been effectively implemented with many activities, such as taking care of flower roads, cleaning, and planting trees. The commune's Youth Union actively takes charge of self-managed roads, propagandizes the Youth Union to limit the use of plastic bags, classify garbage, and establish a youth volunteer team to protect the environment. Since the beginning of the year, 2 "Green Sunday" sessions have been organized, with 85 Youth Union members participating; 6 general cleaning sessions, clearing sewers, dredging 5 km of ditches, with more than 200 Youth Union members participating; mobilizing 10 households to move livestock out from under the floor.
Previously, the family of Ms. Quàng Thị Cừn, Bo Xanh village, Muong Gion commune, raised livestock under the floor of the house, causing loss of aesthetics and environmental pollution. Ms. Cừn said: With the propaganda and mobilization of the commune officials, especially the commune women's association to implement the model of "5 no, 3 clean", my family moved the livestock barn far away from the house; built ancillary works to ensure the "3 clean" standard; regularly cleaned the house; and cut grass to keep the house area airy.
Ms. Dang Thi Huyen, Deputy Head of the Department of Rural Development, informed: Up to now, most of the domestic solid waste of households in the central areas of communes and wards has been collected and classified at the source before being brought to the collection point, so that the competent unit can collect and transport it to a centralized treatment site according to regulations. In non-concentrated residential areas, remote areas with inconvenient transportation, households self-classify, collect, and treat by burning or burying... Currently, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has advised the Provincial People's Committee to issue a communication plan to raise awareness of environmental protection, focusing on disseminating regulations and policies on environmental protection according to the provisions of the Law on Environmental Protection...
From 2021 to present, the whole province has mobilized over 53 billion VND to invest in upgrading, repairing and building 5 new waste collection and treatment facilities; maintaining 18,532 models of "Self-managed residential areas for environmental protection", self-managed roads, "5 no, 3 clean" models, "Green - clean - beautiful Sunday"... Through assessment, over 50% of the landscape of village roads, alleys, fences and gates of households have been renovated and built; there is no longer a situation of wastewater flowing onto the streets...
To protect the rural environment well, localities continue to strengthen inspections of the implementation of environmental protection commitments of organizations, enterprises, production and business establishments; at the same time, integrate capital sources to upgrade and build new domestic water works, install additional containers for storing used pesticide packaging, and improve local environmental quality.
