According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , in Vietnam, it is estimated that about 1.8 million tons of plastic waste are generated each year, but only about 27% of plastic waste is recycled, the rest is buried or burned, and is thrown away into the environment, not only wasting resources but also posing many environmental risks.
Faced with the widespread use of plastic products, especially disposable plastic products, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has just issued an official dispatch requesting ministries, departments, branches, organizations, and provinces and cities to implement the Environmental Action Month 2025 (June 2025) with a focus on the national campaign "Join hands to reduce plastic waste, spread green lifestyle".
This campaign aims to mobilize the whole society to clean up the environment, collect and classify plastic waste at the source in urban, rural, residential areas, schools, agencies and coastal areas, alluvial areas, rivers and lakes; collect, recycle and reuse disposable plastic items; change sustainable behaviors to reduce plastic pollution, promote circular economy, create green lifestyles...
Units and localities organize festivals to not use disposable plastic products to change consumer behavior; encourage the application of plastic-free models in supermarkets, traditional markets, restaurants, agencies, offices, schools, etc. At the same time, organize activities to increase the use of environmentally friendly products and packaging.
Vice Chairman of Hai Chau District People's Committee Nguyen Van Duy said that in recent years, the district has regularly promoted and called on officials and people living, studying and working in the area to reduce the use of disposable plastic products, limit the use of hard-to-decompose plastic bags, plastic bottles, plastic straws... to move towards saying no to plastic waste. At the same time, encourage the use of reusable, environmentally friendly, recycled and reusable products such as: cloth bags, biodegradable bags, glass water bottles, bamboo or stainless steel straws...
“During the 2025 Environmental Action Month, the district will promote propaganda and raise public awareness of the harmful effects of plastic waste, promote green lifestyles, use environmentally friendly products; promote the movement to combat and reduce plastic waste... The district will continue to support and promote the implementation of good models of collecting and recycling plastic waste that have been successfully implemented, especially the model of exchanging plastic waste and recyclable waste for trees,” informed Mr. Duy.
In Thanh Khe district, during the Month of Action for the Environment, the district promoted models of reducing plastic waste that have been effectively implemented in recent years such as: markets that reduce plastic waste, markets that use biodegradable bags, green schools, supermarkets that limit the use of hard-to-decompose plastic bags, social security flower vases...
Acting Chairman of Thanh Khe District People's Committee Tran Tuong Van said that the district propagates and calls on people, civil servants, public employees, union members at all levels, sectors, organizations, and businesses to change their consumer behavior such as: limiting the use of plastic packaging and hard-to-decompose nylon bags at supermarkets, traditional markets, restaurants, agencies, offices, and schools; reducing the use of disposable plastic products; increasing the use of environmentally friendly products and packaging...
The People's Committee of Hoa Vang district directed units and localities to organize propaganda and guide people in villages to implement the "Anti-plastic waste" movement; encourage consumers to use reusable, environmentally friendly bags when going to markets, supermarkets and stores. In addition, strengthen inspection and supervision of compliance with environmental protection laws for business households, production establishments and service businesses. In particular, the district launched a peak period of not using hard-to-decompose plastic bags on Sundays at all markets and business and service establishments.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, during the 2025 Environmental Action Month, the city will step up propaganda, raise public awareness of the harmful effects of plastic pollution and encourage the community to change consumer behavior, green lifestyle and promote the "Anti-plastic waste" movement, limit the use of plastic products, especially disposable plastic items and reduce plastic waste emissions into the environment...
Accordingly, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism guides, regularly inspects, monitors and reminds service businesses to seriously implement waste classification at source, minimize plastic waste and ensure environmental sanitation in business and trading areas on Son Tra peninsula and tourist beaches.
The Department of Industry and Trade organized a review and evaluation of 5 years of implementing the Korean market model to limit plastic waste, integrating the results of implementing the restriction of plastic bags at supermarkets and shopping centers in the city; launching a movement to limit plastic bags, plastic waste... for small traders doing business in the markets.
The City Food Safety Management Board organizes propaganda on waste classification, limiting the use of plastic products and reducing plastic waste at food production, processing, trading and catering establishments in the area.
