The story of trees before the storm.

(Baoquangngai.vn) - Currently, many northern provinces and cities are striving to overcome the consequences of Typhoon No. 3 and the resulting floods. One of these efforts is to implement measures to repair and clear fallen trees, with Hanoi being the locality with the highest number of fallen trees.

According to statistics from Hanoi City (as of September 13th), Typhoon No. 3, along with heavy rain and wind, caused over 40,000 urban trees across the city to fall or have branches broken. Notably, many centuries-old trees, associated with historical landmarks of the capital, were also uprooted or broken during Typhoon No. 3. These losses are immeasurable and cause much regret.

Analyzing the causes of the numerous trees that fell in Hanoi due to Typhoon No. 3, some environmental and tree experts believe the problem lies in the unsuitable types of urban trees and inadequate planting techniques. Others argue that tree falls are unavoidable in storms like Typhoon No. 3.

The causes of the severe damage to urban trees in Hanoi during the recent super typhoon will be thoroughly assessed in order to find solutions for future tree-related issues.

However, there is one thing that scientists and tree experts need to learn from the experience of "dealing with trees" before storms in Central Vietnam, an area that is heavily affected by natural disasters and frequently experiences typhoons.

As is customary, before each rainy and stormy season, urban green space management companies in Central Vietnam, including Quang Ngai , launch their annual tree trimming and pruning campaigns. Especially when storm forecasts predict an area will be affected, these efforts are intensified in terms of both manpower and equipment to complete the task of cutting and trimming trees before the storm makes landfall.

Large trees will be pruned. Trees that are leaning or showing signs of loose roots will be reinforced and propped up. Furthermore, trees will be categorized according to their specific characteristics to ensure appropriate pruning. The goal is to minimize damage caused by storms to the green infrastructure while simultaneously ensuring the safety of people's movement and daily lives.

Of course, given the strength of the storm, it's inevitable that some trees will fall. However, the damage to the trees is greatly minimized. This is because trees that have been pruned, trimmed, and propped up will be less affected by the strong winds.

In reality, the approach to tree care in Central Vietnam in general, and Quang Ngai in particular, is a lesson learned through many years. After a period of pruning, trees will grow green again, which is better than letting storms and strong winds knock them down, uproot them, or break their branches. Because planting a tree is not easy, and it requires a lot of time and care.

Therefore, for the people of Central Vietnam, as long as there are sprouts, there will be trees.
