Harvard University theoretical physics professor Avi Loeb and colleagues discovered a strange interstellar object called 3I/ATLAS on July 1 using the NASA-funded ATLAS robotic telescope. Photo: Mail Online.

According to Professor Loeb, 3I/ATLAS is following an extremely normal orbit and will bring it close to three planets: Venus, Mars and Jupiter. Photo: Mail Online.

Professor Loeb explained that the orbit of 3I/ATLAS is so rare that the chance of a natural asteroid randomly following it is less than 0.005%. Photo: Mail Online.

Based on these, Professor Loeb - who has strong faith in UFOs - believes that 3I/ATLAS could be an alien probe sent to the Solar System. Photo: Mail Online.

Professor Loeb added that such a spacecraft and the aliens controlling it would have two engines. One engine would be harmless and the other would be hostile. Photo: Mail Online.

Previously, experts' research showed that 3I/ATLAS was rushing into the Solar System at a speed of more than 217,000 km/h and it originated from the constellation Sagittarius. The hyperbolic orbit suggests that 3I/ATLAS is an object from outside the Solar System, similar to two previously discovered interstellar objects, Oumuamua (2017) and Borisov (2019). Image: NASA/ JPL-Caltech.

However, the mysterious object 3I/ATLAS is unusually bright despite being about 490 million kilometers from Earth. Based on the level of light reflection, scientists estimate its diameter to be up to 20 kilometers. Image: International Gemini Observatory/ NOIRLab/ NSF/ AURA/ K. Meech (IfA/U.
