The incident also caused a stir in the online community, who vented their anger on the hotel by rating it 1 star. Royal Hotel at 19 Hang Chao received more than 31,000 reviews with an average score of 1 star along with many negative comments.
However, after just 1 day, this hotel returned to an average rating of 4.3 stars with 336 comments on Google Maps.
According to expert Tuan Ha, founder and Chairman of Vinalink Media, both Google and Facebook currently have policies to automatically censor and remove dishonest reviews. If the system detects an abnormality such as a sudden increase in the number of 1-star or 5-star reviews in a short period of time, the system will restore the previous reviews for customers after 24 hours.
Mr. Tuan Ha said that in the past, Google and Facebook did not interfere with user reviews. However, realizing that many users were taking advantage of this method, using support tools to sabotage, bring down competitors, and create unfair competition, these platforms began implementing automatic censorship policies.
At the same time, Google will also flag suspicious and downgrade Gmail accounts that participate in these unusual reviews. Therefore, Mr. Tuan Ha recommends that users should not follow suit with 1-star reviews in similar cases, to avoid the case that Google considers this to be a fake account.
