V-League changes, the flag is in Cong Phuong's hands?
The ball of V-League next season has not yet started rolling when a "storm" has appeared, when a team decided to stop playing. That is Quang Nam Club. The Quang team will merge and become a part of Da Nang Club participating in V-League 2025 - 2026.
As reported by Thanh Nien Newspaper, after the decision from the team's top management, all office staff, coaching staff, first team players and youth players and coaches will move to Da Nang .

After that, the Han River football team will restructure the team comprehensively. According to the explanation from the insider, maintaining 2 football teams after Quang Nam merged into Da Nang City is quite wasteful, causing dispersion of investment resources. Therefore, Quang Nam will be disbanded and Quang Nam's V-League spot will also be vacant. The team owner is also unlikely to transfer the right to participate in the tournament to any partner.
The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has received a withdrawal request from Quang Nam Club. The VFF Executive Committee will meet to plan and then make a decision. In any case, the 2025-2026 season will have changes.
The most feasible option (with a high probability of coming true) is that the 2025-2026 V-League will only have 13 participating teams. The match schedule will be adjusted, with only 24 rounds (instead of 26 rounds like previous seasons). Or maybe, Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) will keep the match schedule the same, only changing the details: the teams will have a break in the round against Quang Nam.
However, the 2025-2026 V-League initially had 2 direct relegation slots. Now that the number of teams has been reduced from 14 to 13, the number of direct relegation slots may need to be recalculated. It is possible that next season, the V-League will only have 1 direct relegation slot, while still taking 2 direct promotion slots from the first division so that the 2026-2027 season will have 14 teams. Adjusting the number of promoted and relegated teams needs to be carefully calculated based on the total number of teams participating in the tournament, in order to help the V-League ensure its attractiveness.
Another possible scenario is that the V-League will take another team from the first division to fill the void left by Quang Nam Club. Last season, Ninh Binh Club won a direct promotion ticket, while Binh Phuoc Club lost the play-off to Da Nang Club (the team that just merged with Quang Nam). It is not impossible that Binh Phuoc Club of Cong Phuong and Xuan Truong will be promoted to play in the V-League. This option has the advantage of helping the V-League still have 14 teams, so there will not be many changes in the match schedule.
The option of bringing Binh Phuoc Club to play in V-League instead of Quang Nam cannot be ruled out.

However, the possibility of promoting Binh Phuoc to play in the V-League instead of Quang Nam is unlikely, because Quang Nam team does not (or has not) transfer the V-League slot to any team. The VFF Executive Committee has not yet agreed on a plan, because bringing a team from the first division to the V-League requires many steps and careful calculations to ensure fairness for the clubs, avoiding "breaking" the professional football system. Currently, Binh Phuoc Club has not received information that it can play in the V-League instead of Quang Nam.
Goodbye former king
In more than 2 decades of existence, the greatest achievement of Quang Nam Club is winning the 2017 V-League and the 2017 National Super Cup. This is the achievement that the Quang Nam team has achieved under coach Hoang Van Phuc.
After that, Quang Nam FC declined and was relegated in 2020. Quang Nam team had a dramatic relegation race with Nam Dinh until the last round. Despite winning 4/5 of the last matches, the team led by coach Nguyen Thanh Cong at that time still could not stay in V-League.
However, Quang Nam FC only needed 1 season to return to the V-League. Last season, Coach Van Sy Son's team stayed in the league in the penultimate round, after a tense "survival" race with Binh Dinh FC, Da Nang FC and HAGL. The 3-3 draw with HAGL in round 26 of the 2024-2025 V-League was the last match in the history of Quang Nam football.
After Quang Nam merged into Da Nang, Quang Nam football also said goodbye to V-League. The Quang Nam team will become a part of Da Nang Club and continue their journey under a new roof.
