On the morning of June 15, a workshop on preparations for the 2023-2024 season took place in Hanoi . According to VPF's plan, V.League 2023-2024 will take place from October 20, 2023 to July 6, 2024; the National First Division 2023-2024 will start from October 20, 2023 to June 29, 2024; the National Cup 2023-2024 will start from October 24, 2023 to July 14, 2024.
This season, VPF plans to have breaks for FIFA Days (November 2023, March, April and June 2024) and breaks for international tournaments such as the 2024 Asian Cup (expected January 12, 2024 - February 10, 2024), U23 Asia (expected April 15, 2024 - May 3, 2024). In total, the V-League and National Cup will last for 10 months and there will be times when the team will have to rest for 4-6 weeks.
V-League teams want the tournament to take place in a shorter time.
At the workshop, Mr. Doi Sy Nam - Representative of Thanh Hoa Club said: " The current situation in V-League is that the competition schedule of each season is often not fixed in terms of time frame, making it difficult for teams to plan their finances. Every month that is extended, the amount of money spent increases much higher, not to mention the many risks that occur during long breaks. We propose that the season should only be limited to about 8 months ."
Meanwhile, coach Nguyen Duc Thang of Binh Dinh Club proposed that the tournament should only last a maximum of 9 months. In particular, the match schedule needs to be arranged appropriately so that the teams have a suitable break between matches. According to the expected match schedule for the 2023/2024 season, in some stages, the rounds of the V-League are dense, causing difficulties in traveling and physical recovery for the teams.
Even teams like Thanh Hoa or HAGL were somewhat fierce when debating with VFF representatives about the interests between the national team and the club. According to the representative of the Thanh team, this locality does football thanks to the boss's pocket money and a part of the State's investment. Therefore, the pressure on the team's performance is always high. VFF needs to be proactive in organizing tournaments to ensure the interests of both sides. The Vietnam team needs achievements but the club also needs good results in the V-League.
At the end of the workshop, the clubs voted and agreed that the tournament will start from October 20. Regarding specific adjustments, VPF will submit to the VFF Standing Committee, before making a final decision, it will continue to collect opinions from the participating clubs.
