Mr. Chang said: "Since I was 21 years old, I have had a passion for collecting antiques to display in my house. Whenever I hear of antiques for sale, I immediately go and buy them, from the Western provinces to all over the country. After more than 40 years, the number of items I have collected has reached hundreds of items, and I can't remember how valuable they are."
To satisfy his passion, in front of his house, Mr. Chang reserved a space of about 40 square meters, built in the style of an ancient house, for display. From tables, chairs, panels, beds... inlaid with mother-of-pearl; cups, bowls, tea sets, trays, clocks... ranging in age from a few decades to over 100 years old, he arranged them reasonably, increasing the aesthetics.
In addition, Mr. Chang also owns a series of coins and money from countries around the world . "To have money to play with antiques, my wife and I have worked hard for the past few decades to grow grapefruit. When I have money from selling grapefruit, I set aside some money to buy antiques and old things" - Mr. Chang expressed.
Mr. Chang spends about 40 square meters in his house to display his favorite items.
A typical example is the horizontal scroll that Mr. Chang "brought" home a long time ago. When he saw the scroll with its sophisticated patterns, inlaid with bright and beautiful mother-of-pearl, this old farmer was determined to buy it.
Mr. Chang collects all kinds of antiques: bowls, spoons, clocks, trays...
Mr. Chang recalls: "At that time, I didn't have any money but was so greedy that I discussed with my wife about cutting 1,000 grapefruit branches to sell for 30,000 VND/branch. I immediately took 20 million VND to buy this horizontal board to hang. It's true that when I hung it in the living room, it made the space of the house look fresh and lively."
To buy the mother-of-pearl inlaid horizontal lacquered board, Mr. Chang had to cut 1,000 grapefruit branches and sell them to have money to buy it.
The bed was bought by old farmer Nguyen Van Chang 20 years ago.
Mr. Chang said that many people asked to buy old and antique items with high value, but he refused to sell.
Mr. Chang’s house is also visited by many domestic and international tourists. In addition to antiques, the owner also treats guests to passion fruit drinks and grapefruits… available in the garden.
