Considering signs of deception in Nestlé Milo barley milk advertisement, Dong Nai Department of Health transferred the case file to Dong Nai Provincial Police Investigation Agency for verification and clarification.
According to the report, on May 28, the Department of Health coordinated with relevant departments and branches to organize a meeting to unify the handling of contents related to food safety inspection at Nestlé Vietnam Company Limited.
At the meeting, through checking and reviewing relevant records and documents, representatives of the Department of Health and the Inspection Team agreed that the case showed signs of deceiving consumers and customers. From there, the Department of Health recommended transferring the case file to the police for investigation.
On May 29, the Department of Health issued a document transferring the file and handing over all related documents to the police investigation agency for verification, clarification and handling according to legal regulations.
Previously, implementing the directive of the Food Safety Department on coordinating information handling, the Dong Nai Provincial Department of Health invited relevant units to meet to agree on how to handle product advertising content.
On May 15, the Dong Nai Provincial Department of Health directed the Food Safety and Hygiene Department and the Department Inspectorate to coordinate with the Inspectorate and the Press and Publishing Management Department (under the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dong Nai Province) to work with a representative of Nestlé Vietnam Company Limited in An Binh Ward, Bien Hoa City.
At the meeting, the company presented two products: "Nestlé Milo 3-in-1 barley drink supplement" (self-announced on December 27, 2021) and "Nestlé Milo barley drink supplement" (self-announced on August 10, 2022). According to the official dispatch of the Food Safety Department, these two products are not related to the use of information of Institute of Nutrition on the label.
Nestlé Vietnam confirms that it only uses information from the Institute of Nutrition on the product label "Nestlé Milo barley milk supplement", other products do not use this information.
In addition, the company also provided a confirmation document from the Institute of Nutrition (January 25, 2024) on the study evaluating the effectiveness of the product combined with physical education for primary school students. The document agreed on the content showing that the product helps improve physical qualities after 3 months of use.
While waiting for instructions on how to handle the situation, Nestlé Vietnam has proactively stopped all advertising related to the Institute of Nutrition on platforms such as television, social networks, digital platforms and billboards.
At the same time, the company has asked partners to stop posting related content and plans to change product packaging, with a new version expected to be launched in September 2025.
