Vinh Te Ward was formed on the basis of merging Nui Sam Ward, Vinh Te Commune and Vinh Chau Commune, continuing to play the role of a border locality. This is the starting point of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway, linked to the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang economic corridor, connecting the An Giang border gate economic zone with Tran De seaport (Soc Trang) and the provinces in the region. Vinh Te canal connects with Ha Tien Ward, convenient for trade, economic development and product consumption.
Sam Mountain National Tourist Area gathers 5 national relics: Sam Mountain, Ba Chua Xu Temple of Sam Mountain, Thoai Ngoc Hau Tomb, Tay An Pagoda and Phuoc Dien Pagoda. In particular, the Ba Chua Xu Festival of Sam Mountain has just been recognized by UNESCO as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity, becoming an important connection point for domestic, foreign and international tourist routes, promoting regional connectivity. The locality also has tourism potential in 2 provincial relics: Vinh Te communal house and Bong Lai pagoda. The potential and strengths in trade, services and tourism continue to be promoted, tourism plays a leading role in the local economy . In the first 6 months of 2025 alone, more than 3.4 million tourists came to visit and worship (reaching 68.5% of the annual target).
“In the 2025 - 2030 term, we are determined to build Vinh Te ward into a center of trade, services and tourism of the province through the breakthrough of “Mobilizing all social resources to invest in infrastructure, associated with preserving and promoting cultural heritage values, creating momentum for the development of trade, services and tourism”. It is expected that the total number of tourists visiting the ward in the period of 2026 - 2030 will reach 25.5 million; by 2030, the average spending of each tourist will reach 600,000 VND”, informed Chairman of Vinh Te Ward People's Committee Ngo Thi My Ngoc.
To achieve this major goal, the locality aims to exploit the potential and advantages of regional linkages in border trade, spiritual tourism with natural landscapes, relics, and ranked cultural heritages, thereby promoting rapid and sustainable development of trade and services, creating high value, increasing contributions to the budget commensurate with the potential, advantages, and development opportunities. To retain tourists, the prerequisite is that the ward must diversify the types of services associated with tourism, develop the local traditional industries and occupations; improve the quality of accommodation, food, entertainment, and healthy recreation services. Continue to promote socialization, widely mobilize resources for investment in developing tourism products suitable to tourism conditions, potentials, and tastes of tourists.
Following the determination of Chau Doc City (old), Vinh Te Ward is urgently implementing a project to develop the night economy; solutions to preserve and promote the value of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity, the Festival of Ba Chua Xu Mountain Sam. Culture is linked to tourism development, making tourism truly become the spearhead economic sector of the locality. The locality wishes to train and develop a team of leaders and managers in the cultural field who are truly knowledgeable about culture, have qualities, courage, and professional capacity to meet the requirements and tasks.
However, the locality still faces some obstacles in the journey to realize its aspirations. Comrade Trang Cong Cuong - Secretary of the Vinh Te Ward Party Committee commented: “Although the locality has strengths in spiritual tourism activities, it has not diversified many types of services to attract visitors to stay. Most tourists come to visit, worship and then leave during the day. Meanwhile, the ward is located in a strategic position in the southwestern border region, with great potential for developing a border tourism - service - trade urban area. We recommend that the province consider and approve the policy of adjusting the general planning of Vinh Te ward until 2050 to ensure consistency and consistency with the planning of the Sam Mountain National Tourist Area approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 2098/QD-TTg, dated December 27, 2017, contributing to facilitating urban construction management and attracting investment”.
To unleash tourism resources for the locality, we must first unleash people’s tourism mindset. “Heavenly time” and “geographical advantage” are already there, we just need to promote the “human harmony” factor.
