From the center of Dak Pek commune (Dak Glei district, old Kon Tum , now Quang Ngai province), the group of tourists crossed Lo Xo pass for about 20 minutes, then continued to roam for more than an hour by motorbike through winding dirt roads between coffee and cassava plantations of the local people.
That arduous journey led them to a land never marked on a tourist map, a vast, flat grassland surrounded on all sides by vast primeval forests.
They pitched tents on the grassy slopes, lit a fire, and gathered around in the misty morning mist. Behind them was the forest, in front was a vast open valley. The scene did not require special effects; just standing still and breathing deeply was enough to make people silent with emotion.
“When we arrived, no one in the group said anything. We stood looking around and saw the mountains and forests opening up to welcome us, saw the mist drifting across the grass, and heard the wind breathing,” said Ngo Quyet, the leader of the group.
The landscape here is like a plateau untouched by humans. The grassy hills are gentle and endless. The sky is high, the wind is calm. In the morning, the hills are covered with white mist, in the afternoon, the sunset turns red on every blade of grass. Everything is pristine and full of emotions.
With no phone signal or signs, this place is currently only accessible to those with a passion for exploration .
“This space is ideal for camping, trekking, and unplugged vacations. I believe many nature lovers will be fascinated when coming here,” Mr. Quyet added.
At night, there is only the firelight and the starry sky. In the morning, the fog is as thick as smoke, creeping across the hillsides. And when the sun rises, the light spreads evenly, making the landscape come to life. Every moment can become a lifetime photo.
Mr. Nguyen Van Vinh, Chairman of Dak Plo Commune People's Committee said: " We are really surprised when young people know and explore this area. This is a rare natural forest area, still in its original state. In the near future, the locality will conduct a field survey and at the same time make recommendations to superiors for appropriate directions if it is put into tourism exploitation."
According to Mr. Vinh, if there are organizations and individuals with enough capacity and enthusiasm, the locality is ready to cooperate to develop this place into an ecological and community destination, on the principle of protecting the forest and preserving local cultural identity.
Despite its potential for tourism development, access to Dak Plo grasslands is still difficult. There is no infrastructure, the access road depends on local farms, and there is no official tour guide service. However, because of that, this place still retains its wild, pure beauty like a “rough gem” waiting to be awakened.
If planned sustainably, combined with the local community in environmentally friendly guiding, transportation, dining, and resort services, Dak Plo grassland can become a distinct destination on the tourist map in the West of Quang Ngai.
