Currently, the units are focusing on preparing procedures to announce the route, announce the terminal and waiting for the Ministry of Transport to approve it to officially start operating. Many people also expressed their hope that this high-speed train route from Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao will run soon so that they can experience it this summer.
Ticket prices range from 615,000 VND to 1.1 million VND
According to Mr. Tran Song Hai - member of the Board of Directors of Phu Quoc Express Boat Joint Stock Company (the operator), the ship has a capacity of more than 1,000 passengers, is equipped with modern facilities and is ready to serve passengers departing from Saigon - Hiep Phuoc port (Nha Be) to Con Dao.
Every day, the ship operates 1 trip, departing at 8:00 a.m. from Saigon - Hiep Phuoc port, the journey time is about 5 hours/one way with a distance of 230 km.
The ticket price plan submitted to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport specifically states that the lowest ticket price for the Ho Chi Minh City - Con Dao train is 615,000 VND/seat, regular seat 880,000 VND, VIP seat 1.1 million VND.
On weekends, the lowest ticket price is 685,000 VND/seat, regular seat 980,000 VND, VIP seat remains 1.1 million VND.
To go from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Saigon - Hiep Phuoc port, passengers can go directly to the port or go to Bach Dang wharf (District 1) to take a high-speed ferry to the port. The ferry ticket price is being calculated by the company to be the most balanced, averaging under 200,000 VND/ticket.
"We are building an additional shuttle boat (a small speedboat with a capacity of 350 people) to pick up passengers at Bach Dang wharf at 6:45 a.m. and go straight to Saigon - Hiep Phuoc port so that passengers can catch the 8 a.m. boat to Con Dao. In addition, we can calculate breakfast service to make it most convenient for passengers to experience water tourism ," Mr. Hai shared.
Expectation of "sharing the burden" on the road
The Ho Chi Minh City - Con Dao high-speed ferry route is part of Ho Chi Minh City's waterway development plan for the 2023 - 2025 period.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport's Waterway Traffic Management Department believes that the early exploitation of the Ho Chi Minh City - Con Dao high-speed ferry route will play a major role in developing transportation, tourism, and regional connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City and Ba Ria - Vung Tau province...
The route's operation also contributes to "sharing the burden" on overloaded road and air routes.
Recently, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has sent a document requesting Saigon Hiep Phuoc Port Joint Stock Company to urgently propose to the Ministry of Transport and the Vietnam Maritime Administration to allow exploitation while waiting for the Prime Minister to approve the adjustment of the Master Plan for the development of Vietnam's seaport system for the period 2021 - 2030.
In addition, the department's leaders assigned relevant departments of the Department of Transport to coordinate with Saigon Hiep Phuoc Port Joint Stock Company and Phu Quoc Express Boat Joint Stock Company to survey traffic, connect bus routes and passenger transport routes by express boat from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Saigon Hiep Phuoc Port area (Nha Be district).
Propose Phu Quoc Express Boat Joint Stock Company to carry out procedures for registering fixed passenger transport on the waterway route from shore to the island.
After completing preparations, the relevant units reported the exploitation plan to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies to "finalize" the plan to organize the opening ceremony of this high-speed train route thoughtfully.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport also added that in the coming time, many inter-provincial waterways serving traffic, transportation, tourism... will be jointly deployed by localities.
Previously, in January, the Ho Chi Minh City Waterway Traffic Management Department and related units informed that the Phu Quoc high-speed ferry route expected the first Saigon - Con Dao high-speed ferry trip on January 14, i.e. February 23. This ship departed from the Saigon Hiep Phuoc port area (Nha Be district) to Con Dao.
Thus, up to now, the opening of the Nha Be - Con Dao high-speed ferry route has had to be postponed.
According to plan, this train route will carry more than 1,000 passengers, with a trip time of about 5 hours (one way) and a distance of about 230km.
