This year's Ballon d'Or shortlist will be reviewed based on players' performances in the 2024-25 season, specifically from August 1, 2024 to July 31, 2025. This is a notable change from the previous calendar year calculation.

It is no surprise that PSG players have an overwhelming advantage thanks to the double title last season, especially the convincing Champions League title.
After a 5-0 thrashing of Inter Milan in the final, a host of stars from the French capital have been nominated. High-profile names such as Ousmane Dembele, Vitinha, Joao Neves, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes are all on the list.
The trio of Vitinha, Neves and Mendes impressed as they played a key role in Portugal's UEFA Nations League triumph. This impressive collective performance will likely have a significant impact on the final ranking of Lamine Yamal - a highly-rated young talent at Barcelona.
In addition to the dominance of PSG stars, the list of 30 candidates for the 2025 Ballon d'Or also includes a series of top names in the world such as Jude Bellingham, Desire Doue, Denzel Dumfries, Serhou Guirassy, Erling Haaland, Viktor Gyokeres, Harry Kane, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Robert Lewandowski, Alexis Mac Allister, Lautaro Martinez, Scott McTominay, Kylian Mbappe, Pedri, Cole Palmer, Michael Olise, Raphinha, Declan Rice, Fabian Ruiz, Virgil van Dijk, Vinicius Jr, Mohamed Salah, Florian Wirtz and Lamine Yamal.

The list was nominated by the journalists of France Football and L'Équipe. Then, 100 journalists representing the top 100 countries in the FIFA rankings will vote, selecting the top 10 individuals in order.
The judging criteria include: individual performances, impact in big matches, team achievements, playing style and fair play. Note that players are not eligible to vote - this only applies to FIFA's The Best award.
This is the 69th Ballon d'Or award ceremony since the prestigious award was established in 1956, organized by the prestigious magazine France Football. The ceremony will take place on September 22 at the Châtelet Theater (Paris).
