Taiwan (China) imposes export controls on Huawei and SMIC
Taiwan has imposed export controls on Huawei and SMIC, making it difficult for the two Chinese companies to access resources to produce AI chips. According to Bloomberg, Taiwan’s International Trade Administration has added Huawei, SMIC, and their subsidiaries to its list of entities involved in strategic high-tech goods. This means Taiwanese companies will need government approval before exporting goods to the two companies.

Huawei faces many challenges in chip production.
As a result, Huawei and SMIC could lose access to Taiwan’s factory-building technology, materials, and equipment, potentially slowing China’s AI chip development. The move is aimed at controlling arms proliferation and addressing national security concerns, according to a statement from Taiwan’s Trade Administration. In addition to Huawei and SMIC, the list includes 601 entities from Russia, Pakistan, Iran, Myanmar, and mainland China.
Chinese expert: AI can form human-like thinking
Chinese researchers have confirmed for the first time that large language models (LLMs) are capable of automatically forming a human-like thinking system to understand and classify natural objects. This process is considered an important pillar of human cognition, according to the study published in Nature Machine Intelligence.

AI can form human-like thinking.
The findings add new evidence to the debate over the cognitive capabilities of artificial intelligence, suggesting that it may be possible to create AI systems that mirror important aspects of human thinking. “Understanding how humans conceptualize and categorize natural objects provides important insights into cognition and thinking,” the team said.
Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2 Brings New Boot Effects to Gemini
Google has just released Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2, bringing some notable improvements to Pixel devices. One of the small but interesting changes is Gemini's new startup animation. When users activate the AI assistant, the screen will gently shrink before Gemini's interface layer appears, creating a subtle visual effect.

Gemini is upgraded to help increase user interaction.
Additionally, Google has also added haptic feedback when invoking Gemini, which adds a sense of interactivity. However, there is a small bug: If you use the power button to activate Gemini, the haptic feedback doesn't work, which may be a software bug rather than an intentional change.
While Google is slowly refining the interface, this Beta doesn't yet bring a full-blown Material 3 Expressive makeover.
