Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has just signed Decision 296/QD-TTg dated March 27, 2023 recognizing Di An city as a class II urban area under Binh Duong province.

Di An is located in the central area of the Southern key economic region, bordering Thuan An city, Bien Hoa city (Dong Nai) and Thu Duc city (Ho Chi Minh City).
Di An has a favorable location at the intersection of important economic corridors such as: the North-South dynamic economic corridor (connected to National Highway 1A, North-South railway); the East-West dynamic economic corridor connecting Moc Bai international border gate and National Highway 22; the belt road through Ho Chi Minh City to the Ho Chi Minh waterway cargo port group.
Di An was recognized as a type III urban area in March 2017 and was recognized as a city in January 2020.
In recent years, Di An city has achieved outstanding achievements in the process of socio-economic development; the economy has shifted towards industrialization, modernization, improving efficiency in each industry and field, and the economic growth rate has always been maintained at a high level.
Di An City concentrates many industrial parks, contributing significantly to the economic, cultural, social, commercial - service and industrial development of Binh Duong province; the urbanization speed is fast, the infrastructure system has been and is being invested in and built in a modern, dual-use and synchronous direction.
Building Di An city into a type II urban area creates momentum to promote potential, develop the economy - society and urban areas for Di An city.
Based on the standards of the criteria stipulated in the Resolution of the National Assembly Standing Committee on urban classification, Di An achieved 5/5 criteria, with a total score of 91.22/100 points. Therefore, Di An urban area, Binh Duong province meets the necessary conditions to be considered and recognized as meeting the criteria of a type II urban area.
