Cong Phuong returned to Vietnam from Japan late on September 4. On the evening of September 5, he went to the field for his first training session with the team to prepare for the friendly match with Palestine on the occasion of FIFA Days in September.
Despite having just experienced a long flight, Cong Phuong appeared energetic and very happy to see his teammates again. The striker from Nghe An was arranged to practice with the whole team and completed the training plan well.
Cong Phuong joined Yokohama FC at the end of 2022 after his contract with Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club expired.
The striker born in 1995 has yet to play a match in J-League 1 (Japan's national championship). He only played a few seconds when he was brought on as a substitute in Yokohama's 2-3 loss to Nagoya in the Japan League Cup on April 5.
Due to not being able to play regularly in Japan, this return to Vietnam is an opportunity for Cong Phuong to play and regain his ball feeling.
In the June training session, Cong Phuong scored but could not help the Vietnamese team avoid a 1-2 defeat in a friendly match with Hai Phong . After that, he was placed in the starting lineup in the Vietnamese team's 1-0 victory over Syria.
Currently, the Vietnamese team has a full roster, except for Van Hau who was sent back to his club for injury treatment.
Coach Phillippe Troussuer and his team have 5 days left to prepare for the friendly match with Palestine. The match will take place at Thien Truong Stadium, Nam Dinh on September 11.
