KNP, a 158-year-old company, has declared bankruptcy after a cyber attack. The cause was an employee using an easily guessable password for the internal system.
According to BBC, the hacker group Akira encrypted all data and demanded a ransom of up to 5 million pounds. About 500 trucks stopped working, 700 employees lost their jobs in just a few days.
Even with cyber insurance, the company was unable to recover when both servers and backups were destroyed. The UK's cyber security agency warns that ransomware criminals are becoming increasingly dangerous and sophisticated. KNP hired negotiators but the ransom was beyond their financial means.
The incident is a stark reminder of the importance of password security in businesses. Dear readers, please watch more videos : The "borrowing face" trick of the gambling and money laundering ring worth thousands of billions of dong | VTV24
