Vietnamese weightlifters won 2 Asian championships

After female weightlifter Pham Dinh Thi brought home three bronze medals in the 45 kg category (snatch 68 kg, clean and jerk 85 kg, total 153 kg) in the first competition of the 2025 Asian Weightlifting Championship held in Jiangshan City, China, athlete Lai Gia Thanh followed his teammate to compete in the men's 55 kg category.

Facing extremely strong opponents such as Wang Wei-dong (China), Al Saleem Mansour (Saudi Arabia) or Agad Fernando Jr. (Philippines), Lai Gia Thanh confidently used all his strength and achieved the best results.

This 27-year-old athlete brought home a gold medal in the snatch event with a score of 120 kg and won a bronze medal in the clean and jerk event with 140 kg.

In the final ranking of the men's 55 kg category, Lai Gia Thanh won silver medal with a total lift of 260 kg, behind Wang Wei-dong (China, 265 kg total lift) and above Al Saleem Mansour (Saudi Arabia) with a total lift of 254 kg.

On the second day of competition (May 10), competing in the men's 67 kg category, athlete Tran Minh Tri won the silver medal in the snatch event with a score of 146 kg; ranked third in the clean and jerk event with a score of 172 kg, but in the end won the gold medal in the total lift with a score of 318 kg.

This somewhat surprising result helped the athlete from An Giang "overtake" home star Zheng Xin-hao (147 kg, 170 kg, 317 kg) and Bae Moon-su (Korea, 132 kg, 174 kg, 306 kg) on ​​the medal podium.

There was some regret for athlete Nguyen Tran Anh Tuan in the men's 61 kg category when he achieved a clean and jerk of 150 kg but was unsuccessful in the snatch so his final result was not counted.
