The Department of Cinema asked Netflix to remove the movie "Going with the Wind" containing the "cow tongue line"

On the afternoon of July 9, Mr. Do Quoc Viet - Deputy Director of the Department of Cinema signed and issued Official Dispatch No. 870/DA-VP to Netflix Company; Official Dispatch No. 871/DA-VP to FPT Telecommunication Joint Stock Company with the content of requesting to remove the film "Huong Gio Ma Di".

The image of the cow tongue line appears in a scene of "Go with the Wind".

The Department of Cinema said that after reviewing 39 episodes of "Where the Wind Goes", the Department discovered the image of the "cow tongue line" (nine-dash line) appearing on the map in many scenes.

In episodes 18, 19, 21, 24, 25, 26, 27, 38; in episode 30, the image of the cow tongue line clearly appears from 2 minutes to 2 minutes and 3 seconds. Notably, from 41 minutes 18 seconds to 41 minutes 55 seconds of episode 18, there is dialogue and subtitle "One day this map will go to many places in the world ".

The document also emphasized: "The depiction of the nine-dash line and the content in the dialogue and subtitles as mentioned above in the film is incorrect, infringes upon Vietnam's national sovereignty and violates the provisions of Point d, Clause 1, Article 9 of the Cinema Law No. 05/2022/QH15".

With the movie version shown on the domain https://fptplay.vn and FPT Play application, the Department noted that FPT Telecommunication Joint Stock Company blurred the map image in many movie scenes (in episodes 18, 19, 21, 24, 25, 26, 27, 30, 38).

However, the Cinema Department affirmed that this film has incorrect content, infringes on Vietnam's national sovereignty, and is therefore not suitable for distribution in Vietnam.

In the two above-mentioned documents, the Department of Cinema requested Netflix to remove the movie "Huong Gio Ma Di" from the domain name https://www.netflix.com and Netflix application; requested FPT Telecommunications Joint Stock Company to remove the movie "Huong Gio Ma Di" from the domain name https://fptplay.vn and FPT Play application.

Implementation time within 24 hours from 0:00 on July 10, 2023 and a written report on implementation results must be sent to the Department of Cinema before July 12, 2023.

"Go with the Wind" stars Wang Kai and Tan Song Yun.

Previously, social networks spread a clip cut in the second minute of episode 30, in which the image of the "cow tongue line" appeared while the character was observing the map on the airplane seat screen.

The scene revolves around a flight from Guangzhou (China) to Singapore that encounters an incident due to a passenger having a health problem. On the screen, the plane's route is shown, in which the "cow tongue line" appears.

Previously, FPT Play said: "We affirm that the content on the platform always ensures full implementation of the censorship process before broadcasting.

In the case of the film "The Wind Goes", before release, the unit processed (erased, cropped) inappropriate images. And when there is a request from the authorities to process, we always fully comply with the regulations.

Currently, we have officially removed the film from our domain name, application and infrastructure and await further instructions from State management agencies."

Meanwhile, Netflix Vietnam did not comment on the incident.
