Tax Department warns of new scam: Forging official documents to collect money, people should be careful

The Tax Department issued an urgent warning to all citizens about the situation of subjects impersonating tax authorities to commit fraud.

This information comes from the recent appearance on social networks, especially Facebook, of an article spreading the content "The Tax Department sent an official dispatch via SPX, the recipient had to pay 80 thousand VND, inside was a photocopy of a document from a state agency".

The Tax Department reminds people and businesses to be vigilant and alert about information and subjects impersonating tax authorities to commit fraud.

In the face of the above situation, the Tax Department affirms that this is completely fabricated and fake information, and envelopes like the shared image are not official documents or forms of delivery from the Tax Department. This agency recommends that people absolutely do not receive or pay any fees if they encounter similar cases. At the same time, people need to immediately report to local authorities or the nearest tax agency for timely support.

The Tax Department also sent a message to post offices and shipping units: when detecting envelopes, documents, or forms of delivery that show signs of impersonating tax authorities, they should proactively notify the authorities to coordinate investigation and handling.

Specifically in Ho Chi Minh City, the representative of the City Tax Department said that the articles circulating on social networks deliberately used images, names and information related to the Tax Department to create false trust. However, there is only one verified fanpage called " Ho Chi Minh City Tax" with a blue tick from Facebook. In addition, this agency only manages two official support groups: "Answer - Support for personal income tax settlement" and "Support for business households". Other pages or groups are not officially managed and people need to be vigilant, absolutely do not provide personal information if requested from unclear sources.

Not only stopping at forging documents or images, recently there have been cases of impersonating tax officials to approach businesses and business households. These subjects request "updating information" according to the two-tier local government model, thereby trying to steal people's personal information and important legal documents.

The Tax Department emphasizes that they never ask people or businesses to provide ID cards, business licenses or tax registration certificates through forms other than those prescribed. All notifications from the Tax Department are sent through the address that taxpayers have registered with the tax authority, without any request for verification or updating outside the system.

In particular, when it is necessary to update administrative addresses or change business registration information, people need to proactively contact the business registration agency in accordance with legal regulations. In all cases, people and businesses need to be careful, carefully check information sources before providing personal data, and not follow any instructions from unofficial channels.
