Cech's 26-year marriage falls apart

Former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has announced that he and his wife Martina have decided to divorce after 26 years of marriage.

On Instagram, Cech shared a black and white photo of the two, in which Martina was kissing his cheek, with the message: "Martina and I are sad to announce our divorce after 26 years together. We remain the best of friends and are very proud of our two children."

Cech, 43, and Martina met as teenagers. Martina has been by the former player's side throughout his illustrious football career. They married in 2003 and have two children together, Damian, 16, and Adela Cechova, 17.

Damian and Adela have both gone into football. Daughter Adela is a defender and plays for both Fulham and the Czech Republic U17s. Son Damian is a goalkeeper like his father and signed his first professional contract with Fulham earlier this year. Before that, Damian played for Chelsea's academy team.

In an interview, Cech once shared: "I don't force my children to pursue football, they love this sport in their own way. They live with my name, so from a young age they have to endure the pressure of being compared."

The Premier League legend spent more than a decade at Chelsea, after joining from Rennes in 2004. In total, Cech made nearly 500 appearances at Stamford Bridge before moving to Arsenal.

In the "Gunners" shirt, Cech played 139 matches. He still maintains the habit of wearing a typical helmet to protect the head area that was seriously injured in the past.
