Visiting the farm of more than 5,000 m² of veteran Lu Van Hong, Pot village, Muong Khoa commune, Bac Yen district, I was impressed by the fruit garden and herd of more than 20 pigs, 5 sows, 400 poultry of all kinds and fish pond, earning more than 200 million VND/year, one of the typical good production units of the commune. Mr. Hong shared: Promoting the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", in the village, I am ready to help and share experiences, mobilizing members to change the structure of crops and livestock towards commodities, introducing new, high-quality varieties into cultivation suitable to the actual situation in the locality.
Mai Son Veterans Cooperative, Sub-zone 19, Hat Lot Town, Mai Son District, was established in 2022, has 25 members, grows 30 hectares of custard apples, 20 hectares of mangoes, 5 hectares of longan, avocado, 5 hectares of strawberries and raises nearly 1,000 honey bee colonies. Mr. Nguyen Van Binh, a member of the cooperative, shared: His family was selected by the cooperative as a model for developing clean and safe agriculture , and was supported by the District Agricultural Service Center with 50 million VND to build a greenhouse and receive technical guidance on growing 1 hectare of strawberries and 0.5 hectares of mangoes according to VietGAP standards. In the last strawberry crop, 6 tons were harvested and mangoes are being prepared; the model has created regular jobs for 5 workers who are members of the Veterans Association, with an income of 5-6 million VND/month.
In the border district of Sop Cop, the emulation movement to develop the economy , help each other to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, and get rich legitimately has been actively responded to by veteran members. Mr. Lo Duc Van, Chairman of the District Association of War Veterans, informed: Up to now, the Association has established 2 cooperatives owned by war veterans; 3 farms; 57 livestock, poultry and aquatic farms; 26 service and general business models; and effective food services. Typically, in Dom Cang commune, there is a model of raising goats in cages and growing coffee trees by war veterans Cam Van On, Vi Van Thuong, Quang Van Doan, earning from 300 million VND to 1 billion VND/year; war veterans Vi Van Mung, Nam Lanh commune; Lo Van Thoan, Muong Va commune, develops VAC model, income of more than 400 million/year... Currently, the rate of poor members has decreased from 21.7% in 2020 to 11% in 2024).
Currently, the province has 54 enterprises, 91 cooperatives, 781 service business households, 1,832 farms and ranches owned by war veterans, attracting over 8,500 workers. To create conditions for members to have capital for production, the provincial War Veterans Association has secured loans from the Social Policy Bank for over 28,700 households worth nearly VND 1,540 billion and over VND 70 billion from other credit institutions to develop the economy, creating jobs for nearly 3,900 workers. In addition, from 2024 to present, the War Veterans Association at all levels has coordinated to organize 296 training courses on applying science and technology to production, animal husbandry; environmental protection; and new rural construction for over 11,000 members.
Mr. Dinh Minh Thai, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Veterans Association, said: Associations at all levels have replicated effective economic models and strived for each commune-level Veterans Association to have 1-2 good economic models, typical examples. At the same time, mobilize members to participate in agricultural, forestry and fishery extension clubs to connect and help each other improve production and business techniques, creating resources for local economic development.
Through the movement of war veterans helping each other reduce poverty and do good business, up to now, the whole association has 1,116 members achieving the title of good production and business at all levels, many members achieving the title of good production and business for 5 consecutive years. The emulation movement "Veterans help each other reduce poverty and do good business" has become a driving force for cadres and members of the Veterans Association to continue contributing their efforts and intelligence, eliminating hunger and reducing poverty, and participating in building an increasingly developed homeland.
