Information from the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (Center) on May 14 said: On May 13, the Center received information that the Captain of the PY 90179 TS ship reported that the ship had 01 crew member (named Le Kiet, born in 1985, title of Captain) whose right hand was crushed by an ice crusher, causing a lot of blood loss.
Ship PY 90179 TS is on its way to bring crew members to Nha Trang for timely first aid. The captain requests emergency rescue.
Upon receiving the information, the Center maintained regular and direct contact with the ship PY 90179 TS to update the crew's status and provide instructions on initial first aid measures to ensure the safety of the crew's lives.
At the same time, the information unit coordinated with relevant local agencies: Phu Yen Provincial Border Guard Command, Phu Yen Provincial Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue Command, Khanh Hoa Provincial Border Guard Command... to coordinate timely support for crew members on board.
However, the patient's health condition is getting worse. In the face of a situation that could lead to a very high mortality rate, under the direction of the National Committee for Incident Response, Natural Disasters and Search and Rescue, the Ministry of Transport , the Vietnam Maritime Administration, the Center mobilized the SAR 273 ship currently on duty in Nha Trang and the military doctor of the Naval Region IV Command of Khanh Hoa province to promptly depart for the mission at 12:24 on May 13. At 19:28 on May 13, the SAR 273 ship approached the PY 90179 TS ship and carried out professional measures to organize the rescue.
Due to the localized thunderstorms in the area and the location of the ship in distress far from shore, the rescue work encountered many difficulties. However, with the spirit of urgency, determination, and diligence of the rescue team, after many hours of struggling with the wind and waves at night, the rescue team finally received the crew member in distress, performed emergency rescue measures, and brought him to the wharf of the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center Region IV (Nha Trang), and handed him over to the authorities at 03:09 on May 14, 2023./.
