Fishermen rescued while drifting at sea. Photo provided by Lightning 68-6
According to initial information, at around 1:10 p.m. the same day, on the journey carrying passengers from Lai Son island commune (Kien Hai special zone) to Rach Gia ward, the Lightning 68-6 ship discovered a fisherman drifting at sea.
At this time, Mr. Duong Tai Duc (captain) decided to turn the ship back to rescue. The sailors and passengers used a buoy to let the fisherman hold on to, then used a rope to pull him onto the ship. The fisherman was quite weak and exhausted from being in the water for so long.
“The fisherman’s name is Nguyen Van Sy, residing in Kinh Sang hamlet, Tay Yen commune. We asked for his phone number and called his family to inform them of the news. His family said they knew about the incident where the fisherman fell into the sea while searching for him on a trawler, but could not find him. Luckily, the Lightning 68-6 ship saw him and rescued him in time,” Mr. Duc informed.
When rescued and brought aboard, the sailors provided food to help the fishermen regain their strength and talked to them to help stabilize their spirits. When the ship docked, the captain and sailors of Lightning 68-6 handed over the fishermen to the Rach Gia Port Border Control Station (under the An Giang Provincial Border Guard Command) for health checks and to inform their families.
